

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Rufino.
Kendra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I bought my house in 2012, it was the best day of my life. Not because I had bought my dream home, far from it, but because the nightmare of buying a home was finally over. I was 22 years old and had no clue what I was doing. My realtor and I looked at countless homes and were constantly getting out bid by investors paying cash. I worked with a total of 3 agents before I settled on the one who helped buy my first home. During that time, the market was not great. I felt like the agents had bigger fish to fry and put me on the back burner because I was a first time buyer and they would not make a lot of money with me. That was an awful feeling and till this day, I cringe when I think about it.
October 2015, I decided to get my real estate license so that I can set a higher standard in the real estate world. I plan on doing that by educating and treating people with respect no matter what price home they are buying.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy path. Once I got fully aclimated in real estate, I dealt with a lot of reverse age discrimination. According to NAR, National Association of Realtors, the typical realtor is a 54 year-old white female. As a younger agent, it seemed like potential clients would question my knowledge in real estate based solely on my age. Four years later, potential clients very seldom question my knowledge and feel confident with hiring a millennial as their realtor. I owe it to extensive training and commitment to my career.

My company, Rufino & Associates, Real Estate Advisors, is a company affiliated with Keller Williams Buckhead. We value integrity at a high level. Being in a huge city where it’s saturated with realtors, it’s tough to stand out sometimes. I would say my dedication, passion, and my willingness to educate people on building wealth through real estate sets me apart from my competition.
My coach always told me: People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is living in Miami in my early teens. Being surrounded by people who loved and cared about us is a feeling I wish every kid had. Back then, life was simple. Now we are worried about building a wall in Colorado. SMH
