Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenedra Campbell
Hi Kenedra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Kenedra Campbell, but I prefer to be called ‘Kenni’. I am from Atlanta, GA but, I currently reside in Raleigh, NC for school and work. I am an Army veteran and I have a background in customer service/tech support. I’ve recently quit my 9-5 to pursue my passions; art and design. I’ve been into art since I was a kid, but I could never fully nurture that talent because my parents weren’t always financially stable enough for my siblings and I to explore different hobbies. Fast forward to today, I started pursuing art and design seriously, after being in a car accident, that led to me staying home for three months to recover. I often like to think that the car accident was a blessing in disguise because had it not been for the accident and me being home more, I don’t believe I’d be where I am today. Spending more time home gave me the time and freedom to create. It gave me the time to pour into my hobbies and passions and during that time, I started my online business (www.kennilamairart.com) and I decided to pursue two undergraduate certificates (Digital design & Web design) and I’m finishing up my bachelor’s degree in Web & Digital design this year, with the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). Art (drawing and painting) was always something that came easy to me, naturally. I’d often watch other artists create their masterpieces and think that I couldn’t create something like that because whatever techniques that they were using to create their masterpiece didn’t come easy to me. Today, I believe that even if a talent doesn’t come naturally, that doesn’t mean that you can’t take the time to learn and develop those same skills and techniques. Which is why I am currently enrolled at UMGC, to learn and develop the skills and techniques that I will use to better myself as an artist/designer and to better my business, as well. Now that I am able to nurture my talents as well as invest in myself, there is no limit to my creativity. The possibilities are endless and I am very excited to share my art with the world and to see where following my dream takes me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes, surprisingly following my dream has been a smooth road. I’d like to think that because my journey as an artist/designer has been smooth that, I am in alignment with who I am and my purpose.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a part-time artist, and a freelance graphic designer/web developer. I am known for my captivating digital portraits and my vibrant abstract paintings. Aside from selling physical paintings and digital paintings/prints, I also design and sell tech accessories such as phone cases, mouse pads, laptop cases, etc. What sets me apart from others is the effort, time, consideration and attention to detail that I apply to every painting and design that I create. I am extremely proud of the fact that I am able to create my own designs and have them printed on physical merchandise. I want readers to know that I am dedicated to maintaining brightness in the world, one painting and design at a time. Aside from paintings and digital prints, I also specialize in and offer custom designs (paintings or prints), design resumes, movie posters and magazine cover posters.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was curious. I loved learning new things, exploring my environment and creating whatever I imagined at the time. I was very extroverted as a child. It was easy for me to make friends wherever I was. I was a bit of a rebel as well. I lived to learn in my own way and on my own time and I always questioned what was deemed as right or wrong. I was always interested in whatever sparked my mind and creativity. I am still that child at heart, just older and with more responsibilities.
