Meet Kennedi Cox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedi Cox.

Hi Kennedi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As I was graduating high school in 2014, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. I just knew I didn’t want to work underneath someone forever. I found my passion for videography and editing in 2015 when my father told me I should start a YouTube channel (Kaycee TV) about my college life. From vlogs to street interviews to college events, I realized I loved storytelling and figuring out different ways to intrigue viewers. I kept doing YouTube on the side to keep my creativity flowing. In 2019 I moved to San Antonio, TX and began working as a project manager for one of the sister companies under a multi-million dollar enterprise. The vice president listened when I told him I had a passion for content creation and switched my position to content creator in the summer of 2020. Then I began concepting and executing video content for 3 of the companies under the enterprise. That’s when I realized I could make more money and experience more opportunities working for myself. So, after I built up my portfolio, I quit my job in June 2021, relocated solo to Atlanta, began my entrepreneur journey, and haven’t looked back since!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If the road of entrepreneurship was smooth, everyone would be on this path! It is the most uncomfortable decision I’ve ever made in my life, which is exactly why I did it. I was very comfortable within my routine. Go to work, go home, only give myself an hour or two to work on my craft, shower, eat, sleep, repeat. I knew I was meant to experience more out of life. Being uncomfortable comes with growth and progression, and that is all I have experienced thus far. It is uncomfortable not knowing who your next client will be or when your next check is coming. It can be scary and cause a lot of doubt. The biggest challenge I’ve had is believing in myself and my vision. It’s easy to begin to question everything when things don’t go according to your plan and timeline. However, I also know that this is what I want to do and with great risk can come an even greater reward, and I will sacrifice comfortability for long-term happiness and freedom.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Although I primarily focus on videography/editing, I like to categorize myself as a content creator. With previous work experience copy/script writing, concepting, directing, and being on social media teams at advertising agencies and production companies, I have gained enough experience to provide my clients with the option to utilize all of my talents. I pride myself on being a one-woman band. I give 150% effort to everything I do, so I make sure I am receptive to my client’s needs from the initial consultation to the delivery of the final video. It seems to be harder these days to find someone who has high-quality work, affordable pricing, and great customer service. I make sure to check off every box every time.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
When everything seems to be going wrong, you’re doubting your future, and you’re ready to give up, that’s when you push the hardest. That’s when you’re getting tested to see how bad you want it. Are you a part of the 99% who do things until they get hard and give up to do something comfortable? Or are you the 1% that will keep going and believe in your vision and yourself so much you will do whatever it takes until you bring your vision into fruition especially when things get hard? If you know the path is meant for you, never stray. Also, make sure you’re self-aware of all of your strengths and weaknesses and be receptive to development. Lastly, keep people around you that will inspire and motivate you to be a better person everyday. However, don’t solely rely on the motivation from others to keep you going. You must have the strength to do so when you’re all alone. Basically, if you’re passionate about it, and you believe it’s in your purpose, never give up!
