Today we’d like to introduce you to Kent Miller, MD.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised on a farm in southern Louisiana and was a very active member of the 4-H Club. I raised swine and grew a garden each summer and winter and with these funds was able to pay my way through college and medical school, as my father’s occupation was a county agent – being paid minimally. In addition, I drove sugarcane tractors after school each day and every weekend for extra pay.
I attended LSU at Baton Rouge, Louisiana and obtained my BS degree in Arts and Sciences/Medicine. After four years, I attended medical school at LSU Shreveport, Louisiana for an additional four years. I graduated second in my class and was a member of the Honor Medical Society, Alpha Omega Alpha.
I, fortunately, was selected by one of the top OB/GYN Residency Training Programs in the nation (Parkland Memorial Hospital) – UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. I worked emergency rooms every night that I was not on Residency Call to pay my expenses. I was a Chief Resident during my tenure at Parkland Memorial Hospital and was asked to remain on staff as faculty once I had completed my Residency. I have maintained my Board Certification with the American Board of OB/GYN, and have been an active Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists throughout my practice, which continues today.
However, I chose and was chosen, by one of the premier OB/GYN practices in Gainesville, Georgia to begin private practice in OB/GYN. I wanted to live in a small town in the South, near a big city that had progressive medicine and a place for me to hunt, fish and enjoy boating – as well as live near mountains.
I have been in private practice in this same community since I completed Residency in 1989. I have five children and seemed to be missing their lives, so chose to go into private practice GYN only, after approximately sixteen years of obstetrical and gynecological combined practice.
I have been blessed enough since that time to be inundated with patients, drawing from a 300-mile radius of my location. I have been on active, full-time staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, Georgia from 1989 to present. I have served as Chief of Staff for OB/GYN.
I have served as an OB/GYN Peer Reviewer for the Georgia Composite State Board of Medical Examiners. I have always been extremely involved in Medical Malpractice reviews, depositions and trials throughout Georgia and regions of the Central and Eastern United States from 1992 to present.
I am an ongoing Clinical Instructor and Clinical Assistant Professor of OB/GYN for Mercer University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Department of Physician Assistant Studies, from 2011 to present.
I am an ongoing for Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia and Georgia campuses, from 2016 to present.
I am a Clinical Instructor for Rotating Nursing and Medical Assistant students with Brenau University (Gainesville, Georgia), North Georgia College (Dahlonega, Georgia), Gainesville State College (Gainesville, Georgia) and Lanier Technical College (Oakwood, Georgia) from 1991 to present.
I am a Brenau University Guest Faculty member, Women’s Health Speaker, Gainesville, Georgia from 1989 to present, as well as a local radio host for OB/GYN and General Medicine segments on WDUN, Gainesville, Georgia from 1991 to present.
I am a sub-investigator for a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel group, multicenter study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of study medication as an add-on to ezetimibe therapy in patients with elevated LDL-C on low-dose or less than dose statins, for Esperion Therapeutics from May 2017 to present.
Currently, I have been a pioneer in new, state-of-the-art Selene Touch Vaginal and Vulva Rejuvenations – currently the only such equipment in the state of Georgia. I have also pioneered in Northeast Georgia body sculpting/”fat-busting” with the New Generation UltraShape Power Ultra Pulse Machine – owning one of only three of these in the state of Georgia.
I continue full-time private practice each day at this time.
In addition, my wife and I run “Freedom Farm”, a rescue farm for injured or abandoned animals that need to be rehabilitated and rehomed. Of course, we have had to keep many for ourselves! We currently have 36 animals on our farm, including horses, cows, pigs, eight dogs, cats, sheep, a Jacobs ram, ducks, chickens, rabbits, etc.
I would sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be profiled in your magazine.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not being able to take time off, secondary to being a solo practitioner. Significant financial risks pioneering new procedures with state of the art equipment and advertisement of such.
Dealing with excessive overhead in my solo practice, coupled with continued diminishing reimbursement by insurance companies, causing me to see significantly more patients and ultimately being paid less in doing so.
Please tell us about Kent G. Miller, MD Gynecology.
Kent G. Miller, M.D. Gynecology was established in 2001. We specialize in all aspects of GYN care, female medical care – pediatrics through geriatrics. We also specialize in women’s weight loss programs, hormone imbalances, urinary incontinence, diminished libido and orgasmic dysfunction. We are known for integrating primary care into women’s health care, taking care of the “complete woman”.
We currently specialize in state of the art vaginal and vulva lasering for rejuvenation, giving women back “that 21-year-old vagina”. Along with painless body sculpting – permanently disintegrating subcutaneous fat deposition areas that are unresponsive to diet and exercise.
We are most proud of holding our own as a private practitioner (not being taken over by hospitals or hospital groups). We remain autonomous and offer state of the art, cutting edge, complete care and procedures for total women’s health care.
All of the above sets us far apart from our other OB/GYN colleagues, as well as our patient satisfaction ratings.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Not one single thing. I am very proud of working so very hard and relentlessly to reach the point that we have in quality and diversity of women’s health care and of attaining the patient volume that we have worked so very hard to acquire.
