Meet Keosha King of Kakes by KeO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keosha King.

Keosha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I learned how to decorate mostly on my own after briefly being cross-trained on the job. Shortly afterward, I was promoted from baker/wrapper to cake decorator. Decorating has become a passion of mine they I now do part-time from home.

Has it been a smooth road?
The current struggle is sales during this pandemic. With venues closing or having group restrictions, a lot of people have to cancel or postpone their events. I’m taking this time to improve my business on the backend. Such as updating ordering policies, updating the booking portal, preparing promotional products, etc.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kakes by KeO story. Tell us more about the business.
I am the #buttercreamqueen. My work is often mistaken as fondant. I ice all cakes and cupcakes in buttercream icing. Never covered in fondant. Fondant is used to a minimum because it weighs on the buttercream and I’m not too fond of working with fondant. I decorate it by sight. Show me a photo and we can go from there.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I plan on focusing more on wedding cakes in the near future. The more traditional, all-white tiered cake, surrounded by cakes connected to the tiered cake with staircases and a lighted fountain in the center. That’s a piece of my imagination that I plan on bringing to life. I do have other plans as well that will be revealed at a later date.
