Thanks for sharing your story with us Kesha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While I have always had a love for music, the idea of dj’ing did not come to mind until my husband started about 6 years ago. I began to study and attend gigs with him and found that it was something I would love to do. I began practicing in our basement and practiced for a year before I even let anyone know what I was doing.
It’s funny because I made my debut at my 40th birthday party. I was nervous, but everyone was shocked and pleasantly surprised. Even though I am usually the one on the dance floor all night, it feels good making people feel the way that I do about music. I also love creating new sounds and telling a story through music. Music truly does move the soul and can make you feel a certain way. I like taking people on a journey.
I think I am have gotten as far as I have today because I work hard, study music, and hone my craft by continuing to practice and study those DJ’s that I admire. I have some great mentors who continually give me great advice and are experts of their craft. I never stop learning and trying to take it to the next level.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Because I took my time and continue to hone my craft, I think my journey has been a good one. I am forever listening and learning, and calling on my mentors should the need arise.
