Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevian KB Bateman.
KB, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Been singing since age three…Started singing with a capella gospel group at 11 until 17…Then started singing with R&B group of 3 guys called One Luv at age 17…Got discovered by Father MC and signed a deal with Capitol Records in 1998…Started singing background in 2005 til today with such artists like Tyrese, Music Soulchild, Syleena Johnson, Jacquees, Tony Terry, Deniece Williams, Yolanda Adams, Darwin Hobbs, Karen Clark Sheard, The Zac Brown Band, STS9, and several others.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth!! I’ve gotten a lot of NOs and broken promises along the way. The record deal in 1998 did not last and we were put on the back burner and dropped. That was very discouraging and for a few years, I didn’t want to sing anymore. But in this industry, you have to have tough skin, persistence, and perseverance. So I regained forward momentum and started singing professional background vocals.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Well, I am my business. LoL. I am a professional background vocalist. I also sing lead vocals, write, play piano, vocal produce, and vocal arrange. I think my work ethic, loyalty, and integrity set me apart. When I work with an artist, I give 100 percent at all times no matter how big or small the artist is. I take pride in the fact that I’m giving my all, and if I’m a part of it, it’s going to be right!!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love my city and I love my people. ATL is and has always been good to me. Nothing I dislike about my city. WELL, maybe traffic!! LoL. Buts that’s it.
