Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyla Herbert.
Keyla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Keyla Herbert and I started Keyla’s Bare Essentials on August 30, 2019. I am 25 years old and I work as a registered medical assistant and certified nursing assistant. I always knew that I want to start my own business one day but haven’t figured out what my calling was. I gave birth to my son Khalil in 2018 and he was the best thing that could’ve happened to me. I’ve always had skin problems as a child, but shortly after I gave birth, I noticed that my skin was changing a lot more. I noticed in the last year I was going to the dermatologist more frequently. I was spending a lot of money using creams and ointments that was not clearing my skin but causing my skin to break out more. I knew then that it was my calling to make my own natural skin products that would help clear my skin. I made a lot of trial and errors starting at first but I eventually perfected my first skincare product which is a sugar body scrub. I read that exfoliating your skin can make a difference on the appearance. I knew that if I could make a difference in my skin I could do the same for others. My skincare line has expanded to scented body lotions, body butters, lip scrubs, face and body oils.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has not been a smooth journey. It has been tough and I have cried many times trying to perfect my products before Launching them. I remain calm, and I always keep a positive open mindset to where this journey may lead me.
