Meet Keziah Kegler of Kz Kosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keziah Kegler.

Hi Keziah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began long before I ever picked up a comb. At just 9 years old, I would sit and watch my aunt and other family members braid hair—sometimes mine, sometimes others’—and something about it just spoke to me. It was more than styling—it was connection, confidence, and care. Even when not everyone believed in me, I kept trusting the gift God placed in my hands.

By March 2022, at just 16 years old, I took a leap of faith and turned my passion into a business: Kz Kosmetics. I didn’t want to follow the usual “Braids by” route. I chose “Kosmetics” because I knew I was building something bigger than hair—I was building a brand rooted in beauty, faith, and empowerment.

I started as a home-based braider in Leesburg, GA, mainly offering soft locs—the style that truly ignited my journey. I was a full-time student and full-time entrepreneur. And even though my back, neck, or feet might ache by the end of the day, nothing compared to the joy I felt seeing my clients smile, knowing I made them feel beautiful. That’s when I knew—I was walking in my purpose.

In 2023, I moved to Albany and transferred to a new high school. It was another fresh start, but I leaned in and promoted myself everywhere I could. I started doing the hair of my classmates, teachers’ children and wives, which opened doors I never expected. I began to realize I had built something real—a loyal client base. They trusted me, showed up month after month, and made it clear that I wasn’t just a hairstylist—I was their hairstylist.

That same year, I made a bold decision that changed everything: I transitioned from working at home to becoming a travel braider. That move took my service to the next level. I began offering in-home visits, creating a personalized, luxury experience that allowed my clients to feel safe, seen, and cared for. It became my signature style of service, and it gave me the freedom and confidence I had been missing.

In 2024, after graduation, I moved to Kennesaw to attend Kennesaw State University (KSU). Starting over in a new city—four hours from home—wasn’t easy. I had no local clients and no connections. There were moments of doubt. But God didn’t leave me hanging. Some of my Albany clients had also moved to Atlanta for college—and they stayed loyal, continuing to book with me.

I started with just one new client, and through word of mouth, my business blossomed again. I now serve people across Kennesaw, Atlanta, and nearby colleges and cities—mothers, students, children, and everyone in between. I’ve been blessed to rebuild my brand from scratch and witness how far consistency and faith can take you.

Today, I offer more than just soft locs. My services include retwists, knotless braids, bohemian styles, Fulani braids, and natural hairstyles. But more than anything, I offer an experience—a moment of peace, confidence, and transformation.

Kz Kosmetics is more than a business—it’s my ministry. And this is only the beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have had to start over almost every single year since I began this journey. Whether it was because I moved, lost ambition, or faced life’s curveballs, I never gave up on my passion. Even when things felt stagnant or impossible, I held onto faith in God’s plan. I knew He wouldn’t have given me this gift for me to give up on it.

I had to learn that failure is part of the process—that I couldn’t please everyone. I had to become my own biggest supporter in a business like this. I had to learn not to lean on my own understanding but to trust in God’s guidance.

Through all these obstacles, I have prevailed by God’s grace and strength—because if it were up to me alone, I would have given up. I even supported my family and myself through this business. I’ve never had a typical job in my life, and at one point, I had to be a full-time student, part-time college student, and small business owner—all at once. I had to balance being a sister, daughter, partner, friend, and Keziah all at once. So another struggle was balancing it all.

The inconsistency of this work—the good months and the bad—took a toll on me. But I pushed myself to be brave, put myself out there, and keep going—attracting new clients and building my brand. At times, I had to humble myself and accept less than I deserved to grow my clientele. Humility was necessary in those moments.

There were moments when I cried from stress, unsure of the future, but I overcame. I keep moving forward because this is more than a business—it’s my purpose.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kz Kosmetics?
Kz Kosmetics is a hair styling business serving both women and men with a focus on braids, locs, natural hair, and more. I specialize in braids and am especially known for my signature bohemian knotless braids, a style that blends natural beauty, creativity, and versatility.

What truly sets Kz Kosmetics apart is the comfort, convenience, and luxury I bring to every client. I provide an exclusive in-home service where I come to their space, adapt to any environment, and bring all the necessary tools and products for affordable prices. But it’s more than just hair styling—it’s the full experience.

I believe in creating genuine connections. I listen to those who want to be heard, offer advice to those seeking wisdom, and pour life into people’s journeys. This has helped me build meaningful, trusting relationships with my clients, all while maintaining a professional and polished brand.

Booking with Kz Kosmetics is also about relationship building. Clients spend anywhere from 3 to 9 hours in one room with me, so it’s essential to know who they are, their likes, dislikes, and what makes them comfortable. I’m proud to say I’ve been welcomed into their homes, met their families, been invited to special events, and received as much encouragement and inspiration from them as I give.

What I want readers to know is that Kz Kosmetics isn’t just about hair. It is about providing a personalized, caring experience that empowers my clients and creates lasting bonds. It’s a luxury service grounded in trust, respect, and authenticity.

This isn’t a money-grabbing hustle for me like it is for some. Since I was 9 years old, when I first discovered my love for hair—no love has been lost, and it shows in every braid I do.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Oh God, I’ve had so many people who have encouraged me along the way.

First being God, for keeping me under his wing in abundance, grace and strength.

Starting with my earliest support, my cousin, best friend, and second mom all in one, Fatashia. Since I was 9 years old, she told me I would be something big one day and that I needed to start now. She let me play in her hair, try new styles, sit with her for hours watching movies while I practiced and perfected my craft. She saw the vision before I did, and because she believed in me, I learned to believe in myself.

I’m endlessly thankful to these few people in my journey. My mom, Latrell, has always supported my vision, sacrificing her time so I could travel to clients and grow my business. Mariah, my best friend and fellow braider, has been by my side for the past three years. We’ve shared techniques, pushed through struggles, and lifted each other up when no one else understood. My aunt, Shannon, who actually was patient enough to taught me how to do my first braid. And my partner, David helped me step into working with a new target audience by letting me try new styles on his hair and sharing my talent with everyone he knows. Each of them has played a part in building not just my skills, but my belief in myself.

Last, but not least my clients, the ones who believed in me, shared my name and talent with others, and helped my business grow through genuine support. They’ve shown me consistent kindness, from making care baskets when I moved to college to making sure I was always fed and comfortable at appointments. Some never let a session pass without tipping from the heart. That kind of love and loyalty can’t be bought, and I’ll never take it for granted.
