Khaldoun, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
A discussion among friends regarding professional lives turned into a business partnership. Either we were to remain working for others or we could take the necessary steps to work for ourselves. Fear of uncertainty is debilitating, but we had flexibility due to the different risk profiles & skill sets of each partner. What I mean by the former is that we all didn’t need to jump into the deep end simultaneously – i.e., quit our jobs all at once. We were cautious, took it slow, and relied on the strength of our synergies. Presently, we are three years into our story so we are still at the beginning. I’ll end on the following quote by Theodore Roosevelt :
“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure… than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”
Has it been a smooth road?
A smooth road does not exist in business. We continue to learn every day. There are tremendous amounts of obstacles/challenges that one faces when starting and conducting business. Entity structure, branding, financing, pricing, partnership networks, marketing, revenue generation, execution, implementation, customer approval, cost control…just to name a few. Each business function presents a unique challenge.
One of the most important factors in dealing with struggles is your mindset. I believe that one needs to perceive obstacles/challenges as learning experiences. There is a reason why you are faced with challenges and it will not make sense until you connect the dots backwards. You will be thankful in hindsight.
