Meet Khiry Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khiry Lee.

Khiry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Missouri City Texas, in the SW corner of Houston. My father was a pastor and aircraft mechanic and my mother was a firefighter and military sarge. I moved to Atlanta in 2008 and attended Morehouse College on a track scholarship. One day after starting a twitter comedy career, I was asked to do a show and offended the whole audience. but I had fun so I started to do the shows more consistently around Atl. I started a nonprofit called Laffs for Life that helps charities fundraise from live shows. I was able to go to Kenya with Bethels heavenly hands and establish connections there.

I moved to LA after that trip from 2013-2017, here I had a Lego commercial with the child star from the movie US.
I was in the film Superfly for the party scene.
I also did a few more small commercials and skits.

200 plus comedy skits under the Funarios YouTube channel over 30 million views.
Performed at Laugh factory, NY comedy club, improv Houston and LA, Uptown Comedy Club, Atl Comedy club and many venues I promoted myself.

Sorry, this started at super long-winded then got a bit shorter, but I have been working as well as doing comedy since moving back to ATL. Thus, the small social media influence in recent months I am planning on focusing more on the charity aspect and less on “getting Famous” just seems like an ugly monster with too many opinions on what I should not talk about.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha, smooth as a cheesegrater.
I have had two of my largest publications not aired. I was on the trailer credit for insecure, one thing you may remember about HBO’s insecure is that it doesn’t have a credit sequence. It was shot and never used.
I was also casted for comedy central sketch but the lines were cut because of scheduling issues.
Both were very hurtful but they made me want to fall back on my strength stand up and writing.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a comedian and I tell jokes.
I have a company, Laff$ 4 Life, a comedy show that has one goal in mind, to raise funds for charities and have a good time doing it. I work with churches and have produced events with comedians like Billy Sorrells, Ali Siddiq, and Chris Spencer to name a few.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I have integrity in comedy which is something that many people respect when they see it. The level of a comic that won’t settle for the same jokes club after club. I like to flirt with the line but I like to create a metaphor in my jokes to where I am speaking about something deeper than the actual joke, a form of lyricism to me.
