Today we’d like to introduce you to Kia Baxter.
Kia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
People always ask me how I got started as an inspirational speaker and life coach and I always tell them I’ve really been both all my life. For as long as I can remember, even though I was far from perfect, I was always the voice Of reasoning to everyone I encountered.
As a kid who grew up in one of the toughest neighborhoods in Atlanta, I’m so blessed to have had a mom who instilled the power of hope and introduced me to the importance of having a relationship with God. As a child, I really had no stability in my home life. We moved around a lot, sometimes living in hotels and even shelters. Early on I learned to find stability in my believe that God was going to make everything work together for our good.
At the age of 14, I started volunteering for the YMCA and this is where I discovered my love for helping and inspiring people. I then went on to intern for Hands On Atlanta as a Youth Coordinator and from there I knew I’d always be committed to mentoring and speaking life into people.
Then life hit me hard. I found myself in an abusive, toxic relationship that in the end left me homeless, depressed, and feeling hopeless. I didn’t stay there long because God literally sent people out of nowhere to remind me who I was and empowered me not to stay stuck in my hurt.
I decided to turn my pain into passion and it led me to purpose. Now I travel around the country sharing my story and showing people how they too can go from being on the bottom to flourishing at the top.
I am Kia Baxter, The Purpose Coach, Leadership Expert, & Inspirational Speaker.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all. The biggest struggles were overcoming the insecurities within myself that felt inadequate. I had been torn down so much from people closest to me that it definitely affected my confidence to boldly walk into my purpose.
Please tell us about Purpose Powerhouse.
My company is an empowerment firm. We write programming for youth organizations, particularly alternative schools. I’m mostly known for helping people discover and fulfill their God-given Purpose.
I’m set apart because I like to incorporate the importance of being yourself and having fun while executing your dreams.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I definitely would’ve obeyed and done what I imagined for my business right away instead of waiting and prolonging the process of me seeing the fruit of my dreams.
