Today we’d like to introduce you to Kierra Perry.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Making my own money has always been my thing. In high school, I worked in retail, but I also had a side hustle. I sold phone cases. Some which were custom made. This was my very first business & I did so well with it. Later, when I git into college, I began working at Cupcake Mafia Boutique.
I’ve always been interested in apparel, but this gave me the push I needed. Working around a bunch of black, goal digging women. So I told my brother my plans, & we invested in all of the machines I needed to get my business started. & ever since then I’ve been making apparel with bold statements that women love.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Some days I make $0, some I make $500. Some days I want to give up, some days I’m motivated to keep going. But it’s all about how bad you want it. What obstacles are you willing to go through to get to your success?
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MsKierraP – what should we know?
MsKierraP came from my first & last name. Growing up, I hated my first name, because I had an aunt name Bria’ that I inspired to be just like, so I wanted her name also. My last name always meant a lot to me. My dad passed when I was three, & I was the first kid to have his last name. As I grew older, I began to love me for me & my name for what it was. So I named my business after me. MsKierraP is a business that I created to help people across the world express their feelings without having to say a word. I create clothing with bold statements that have deeper meanings. One of the goals I have within my business is to help every small black-owned business, including my own grow and become the most successful in the world. I am most proud of my business growth!
I’ve always had support, but the amount of support I receive now is indescribable & a blessing within itself. Daily, I receive notifications of inspiring messages of people that I’ve never even met before. I think something that set me apart from others is I’m not afraid to start over or to dabble into something else. Anytime I have an idea, I sit down and plan properly & immediately execute it. There’s no time to wait. You’re your own competition. That’s why my hustle is so strong. As I work on my next venture, I still take time to continue to build the previous one.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment of my career had to be graduating from college. I graduated from Clark Atlanta University May 2019 with a degree in Business Marketing. While in school, I didn’t know how important this was. But after graduation, I noticed that I’ve inspired so many young girls to go to college. A lot of them told me they didn’t think they could handle going to school and owning a business at the same time, but after watching me do it, their minds changed. This touched me because I never knew how many young girls were looking up to me and I never knew that my degree could not only mean so much to me but so much to them also. After receiving my degree, I expanded my business. I’ve used everything that I was taught, & I can honestly say, I have enjoyed the change. Business has been boomin’ lol.
