Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiersten Harris.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When the opportunity arose, I found my self in a summer intern program that helped lower-income students. This was my 11th-grade year of grade school and my advisor at the time of the program knew my love for history. She placed me at The APEX Museum. At the age of 17, I begin my work in community development in lower-income communities. I published my first book at 17 discussing racial issues being unaddressed in America past and current. I eventually published my second book Afromation which is positive affirmation book then eventually went on record to sell out at The APEX Museum. After graduation from grade school, I knew there was a bigger purpose for me in life and I knew I was going to work for myself and work for my people. I develop the skill of marketing and communications which was my career path in grade school.
With this skill, I taught my self the psychology behind marketing. With this skill, I wanted to give my community opportunities that they never saw before. This passion developed into my learning and mastering E-Commerce and Digital Marketing. Today at the age of 21 I am Director of Communications and social marketing of APEX Museum along with being a Digital Marketer and E-Commerce Entrepreneur. I found my joy and happiness helping others achieve goals and restructuring my community.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I was diagnosed with manic depression and anxiety. With that life hasn’t been easy because you have a vision for yourself and you expect a lot to come from it but you have self-inflicted doubt which slows the process down. I left college after only attending one semester, everything went downhill with me from my health, my career and me caring about my existence. If I wanted to see a change, I had to change my narrative and create a pathway for myself and that was through being an entrepreneur and giving myself a purpose. I stop claiming my mental health but instead use it to fuel me.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
As an entrepreneur with many ventures, I am most proud of my work as Coach Kay. Coach Kay is the E-Commerce and Digital Marketing Coach. I help others that couldn’t see a purpose for themselves. I help a lot of single-family homes draft and outline their business or create a way to create a form of passive income. There is a market for everything and there is no wrong business idea. I am here to ensure them that they can execute this and create that change they want to see in their community in themselves. Faith without work is dead. I would like to say the piece of work I cherish the most is the book Afromation I published. Every day this book changes lives and everyday people continue to share their love for the book. Affirmations to me are self-reminders of my worth and my purpose.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very shy because I was always bullied. That created a shell for myself where I didn’t talk as much. I was bullied from 3rd grade all way up too 10th grade. After being diagnosed with manic depression, I changed my narrative I learned to use every negative thing about myself to my career power. I was too talkative? I became the face of my highschools morning news and the debate team. I was weird? I took my weirdness to drama club and started doing red carpet interviews and acting. I found love in loving what others didn’t like about me only because I knew how to capitalize off every situation.
