Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiki Chanel.
Kiki, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m originally from New Brunswick, New Jersey and been working in the entertainment industry for about ten years now. I started as a hobby & just doing Side interviews and creating content on internet radio. I had a full time job in the accounting field as an accounts payable supervisor. Still, my dream was always radio TV and acting but never knew anyone or how to get my foot in the door. But I worked so hard because I BELIEVED in myself. I knew what I wanted and what my heart desired, so I went for It and never stopped. I wrote every day I practiced interviews all day I put my internet radio shows together down to even producing it. I worked so hard for so long I thought I would never catch a break but when I did, I knew I was destined for greatness. I connected with CEO of all hip hop chuck ceemur and when I say he gave me the chance of a lifetime to push me forward in this entertainment industry. It worked but only because I was willing to put in work sleepless nights and sacrifice. I needed a change though because where I come from, there isn’t any support New Jersey is like a place where everyone wants you to make it once you already made it. Still, during the process, they don’t support you, but it’s because we become a product of our environment. I couldn’t be that so I decided to take me talent elsewhere.
I applied for radio positions all over the world. I finally got a call from an operations manager Joseph Jones in South Georgia 967. Now it’s power 967. and I went in for the interview for an on-air weekend position. It was like joseph Jones was another huge blessing in my life. I LITERALLY got hired on the spot for an actual show mon-Saturday not just weekend and I was so happy where I worked so hard I was just appreciative. I love what I do my operations manager Joseph Jones gave me more opportunities as a promotion director, to Public relations to traveling up the ladder to four years later now I am an APD (Assistant Program Director) so I do a lot of programming and also produce my own radio show and other shows on my radio station down to writing commercials producing them, and also training new radio personalities that come into the industry or need help with anything in radio it been a long road but worth it all because I get to APPRECIATE the hard work that I put in.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So many Struggles honestly it was so many No’s you know the industry is about who you know not what you know so it was hard to kick the door in not knowing anyone or getting that special co-sign.
Please tell us about your work.
