Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Whitehead.
Kim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a practicing attorney for the past 17 years in the field of intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyright, and trade secret). For the last decade, I have also served as a lead consultant to large law firms and Fortune 500 companies in global or large-scale domestic litigation, global data privacy, and information governance.
LuxDreamGroup was formed in 2015 out of the merged experiences I have had in both my professional and personal life. Personally, my friends and family refer to me as “‘The Game Changer.” It’s a nickname that they use to let me know that our 3 am chats, text messages, and emails have hit the spot as far as identifying solutions to an issue they are having, connecting them to a resource or person that they need to know, or serving as a listening ear. These types of conversations are a sweet spot for me because I am all about helping people reach their dreams. Big dreams and big success with those dreams. “Big” means different things to different people for some, it is financial. For others, they are interested in big dreams for their children, marriage, homes, cars, mental health, friendship squad, spiritual development. It can be anything!
Dreaming big is what I am all about. I am a huge dreamer. And I am the same person in my personal and professional life. Becoming a lawyer at 23 years old with a biomedical engineering degree from an Ivy League school (the University of Pennsylvania), and a law degree from the world-renowned Georgetown University was a huge dream. I was a young, female, minority lawyer aiming to be in the best law firms in the country (the AMLaw100) as a patent attorney. Less than 3% of attorneys are patent attorneys, so I was definitely dreaming big.
My professional experience became fully integrated in the formation of LuxDreamGroup because when you look at the underlying core of all the work that I do, it is helping corporations reach and maintain their dreams. Intellectual property is all about protecting one’s creative works – dreams. Governance of litigation, privacy and information is all about protecting the workflow and end results of corporate dreams. Same focus, different assignments. I formed LuxDreamGroup with the intent of showing individuals and small businesses the processes and systems I teach large law firms and Fortune 500 corporations in how to go from “good to great” for their goals. Every corporation is formed of individuals, so my work ultimately drills down to the merger of individual people working on their dreams for the benefit of their employer’s dreams.
What about the person who has a goal for their individual life that is not business-related? Many times, people don’t realize that there is a systematic way to approach these types of dreams that help you not only reach your dream goals but sustain them. Small businesses are often left without the resources of scaling and sustainability that larger companies have. LuxDreamGroup helps both individuals reach and sustain extraordinary dreams.
As the CEO, I am The Dream Strategist (R). LuxDreamGroup focuses on four tenets – faith, biology, psychology, and business management to help individuals and small businesses. Through books, online courses, case studies, mastermind cohorts. events, and individual, group, and business coaching, we cover these four tenets as it relates to the attainment and maintenance of extraordinary dreams.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has been an interesting road because I maintain all of the other areas of my professional career, along with a thriving international consultancy at LuxDreamGroup.
The most challenging aspect is seeing the inherent differences in planning strategies, or a lack of planning, that individuals and small businesses have for their dreams as compared to large organizations. Large organizations sometimes overplan and individuals and small businesses often underplan the approach to non-tangible targets like dreams. People have ideas of the salaries they want to have, and the houses they want to live in, etc, but very rarely do they tie them into the type of dreams that they have hidden in their hearts and spirits that will truly make them happy. Most people are living a very different life from the one they dream about, and I am here to change all of that!
Please tell us about LuxDreamGroup.
I am most proud of the ability to serve at a level of excellence in LuxDreamGroup based on the work that I have done in the other aspects of my corporate life. I have been speaking publicly for over 20 years, so it is very important to me to be able to explain complicated topics simply so that they can ingraft quickly into the minds and spirits of my clients. My clients are very intelligent people from all walks of life, yet when they are pursuing strategies in intellectual property or data privacy or planning, you often see that they are buying a million books, listening to a ton of coaches, taking a boatload of webinars and courses and are often overwhelmed with the fire hydrant of information that is coming to them. At LuxDreamGroup, we synergize these topics simply in a way that enables our clients to implement them in an integrated way in their personal and professional lives.
We launched our first Mastermind cohort in 2019 in Atlanta and received rave reviews from participants who sat with us for six-weeks and learned and immediately implemented strategies in topics from daily planning to technology/app selection to mental fortitude and scaling processes. One Mastermind member stated that in one-hour with me, the members received what it took him 20 years to learn.
I am very thankful for the journey I’ve had in my life. From boarding school with billionaires and classmates of world leaders to the Ivy League to Georgetown to law and to consulting, my path has been one of often being the youngest in leadership roles. But it was all for LuxDreamGroup so that I could be able to address clients from 20-70 years of age and teach them how to dream big, and most importantly how to reawaken their dreams when life challenges them or they otherwise fall apart.
So many people are dealing with huge setbacks and pauses that affect their professional and mental state. The Covid-19 crisis is one of international pause. In this pause, I am grateful that we have an opportunity to continue to develop our clients, whether they are at home during this time or are juggling being safe traveling to and from work. Dreaming is so important in this time. It is not the thing to be swept to the side in exchange for other urgencies. It is the thing to keep foremost in mind so that those urgencies are handled in a way that does not compromise one’s integrity, mindset, peace. family, and finances. I always say that LuxDreamGroup was created “for such a time as this.” Each year, season after season, it is more and more visible to me that it truly is.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The consulting industry, in general, will need to become more niche in order for businesses to stand out from one another and to have sustained success. Everyone cannot be a “business coach” or “business consultant” and handle clients equally. You will need to have a specialty that clients can come to you that no one else has. I am a specialist, and LuxDreamGroup has specific services that we provide under the umbrella of innovative change management consulting. The process of reaching and maintaining extraordinary dreams is the process of managing change for your business and your personal life.
As the world is adjusting to remote work, data privacy is becoming more and more important. No longer can we just rely on a privacy notice at the bottom of an email. The systematic approaches to protecting personal data privacy for yourself and your clients, as well as business data privacy, is increasingly important.
Who is teaching that to small businesses and individuals? LuxDreamGroup. In August, well before the Covid-19 crises, we saw the trends in the news about massive breaches on social media and other organizations regarding data leaks and marketing methods based on information learned about people’s daily lives. We become more aware of the need to be on top of data privacy, but it was a distant need. It was not urgent. Covid-19 has changed all of that, and we are in a crisis that people do not realize impacts not just health but how we manage information while we work from home. In August of 2019, we created the Small Business Privacy Index (TM) to help small business owners assess where they currently are and reach best practices in protecting the privacy of their businesses and their customers. In 2020, we have launched these services worldwide.
As a data privacy specialist, I became one of the world’s first globally Certified Information Privacy Managers. It was a delight to be at the forefront of using this knowledge to advise large companies. I can’t express how much more of a spiritually and mentally rewarding experience it is to know that through these services at LuxDreamGroup, we can keep small businesses from going under, avoiding lawsuits, and approaching their dreams in a safer way.
