Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Bartlett
Hi Kimberly , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We like to say this is the story of how two busy moms became tech entrepreneurs.
Following nearly 20 year careers in TV news (me) and Technology sales (my co-founder), we suddenly turned our attention to our growing families and our homes. Being the CEO of the house proved inefficient, slightly chaotic and left us desperate for trusted resources to run our busy lives (think plumbers, paediatric dentists, dog groomers, tutors etc.). Our needs were constant and we felt overwhelmed by the noise, rants and lack of intimacy on huge neighborhood social sites.
The idea for STASH social app was born – a one stop app powered by recommendations from your actual friends, not just people in your zip code. We took our business plan for STASH to ATDC, a start up incubator at Georgia Tech. After building a test product, we launched in the App Store in the fall of 2023. In the past year and a half we have grown to nearly 1000 downloads/ happy STASHers. The app is now filled with 3000 recommendations driven by your actual peers. Tackling a things to do list has never been easier. Book your gutter cleaning, schedule a doctor’s appointment and find a travel agent in just a couple of taps. Never lose an invoice again as you attach pictures and invoices to your contacts in the app. STASH makes running a household easier than ever.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have never met a someone in the start up world who can truthfully say that the road is “always” smooth. For us the challenge was launching a technology product when neither of us was a software engineer. Development shops were expensive and we had vowed to bootstrap our mom-built company. Luckily busy, like-minded friends and neighbors believed in the problem we were solving and ultimately a series of introductions landed us face to face with an incredible software engineer who also happened to be the CEO of his household managing his own busy family life. He is now a part owner and CTO of our growing company.
Being a stay at home mom while trying to run a start-up came with its own challenges. We turned lengthy carpool lines into customer discovery (knocking on windows and researching our audience) and turned playdates into work sessions. STASH became a family affair. Built for families by our whole family! Our kids helped with slide presentations, husbands helped with balance sheets and legal operations and extended family helped with graphic design.
Lastly, the tech start-up world seemed male and young adult heavy. At first we felt like unicorns. It was intimidating at first but over time we found pockets of incredible women mentors in Atlanta willing to guide and cheer us on.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the co-founder of STASH social App – the ultimate tool for busy families. STASH app provides thousands of recommendations to run a busy household powered by your inner circle of friends. Imagine a personal CRM filled with doctors, tutors, plumbers, travel agents, caterers and more! Tackling the day to day to do list of a busy family has never been easier.
STASH was built for busy families by two moms. This is a tech product that understands its audience. It was not built in Silicon Valley but rather in carpool lines and on playgrounds. When your friends and trusted network fuel your recommendations, you save time and money and have peace of mind when choosing providers.
