Meet Kimberly Jones of The Nail Society Salon & Spa in Buford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Jones.

Kimberly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Like any other 20 years old, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life. I knew what I didn’t want, which was a career as a bartender, or an office job, which I was currently at. My choices were limited, time and money being my obstacles. I found out in Florida that I could obtain a manicurist license in as little as 240 hours, and I was sold. What I didn’t know was that you learn very little in 240 hours, and I was not at all prepared for the real world of nails and beauty. This led me on my journey to find more education. I located one of the best salons in the area and applied. It was there that I found my mentor, who led me into this beautiful journey of learning the art of nails, and eventually into my 15-year career as an Educator for Creative Nail Design, a global leader in professional nail, hand and foot beauty. This took me all over the US and even across the pond. Through this, I was able to inspire other nail professionals at trade shows, classrooms and salons. During this time, I was inspired to create an environment for nail professionals to work together, inspire each other, and have a safe space to grow. In 2016, I opened The Nail Society Salon and Spa. The name itself tells a story: a society of passionate people who love education, creating beautiful works of art while providing the utmost care and highest standards of cleanliness, earning us Best of Gwinnett five years in a row! Since opening, we have also entered into the world of Medical nail services. We have specialized training in diabetic and oncology nail care and have started offering services with Chateau Foot and Ankle, a local podiatry office.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the many challenges has been finding the right nail professionals who share the same passion. Recently my mother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Breast Cancer. Juggling her busy schedule of doctor appointments has been quite a challenge. Having the group of nail professionals that I can trust to take care of my clientele has been a peace of mind for myself and my clients.

The Nail Society Salon & Spa – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are definitely not your average nail shop. Think of us like a nail boutique where your experience can be customized to your needs. We offer everything from traditional manicures, pedicures, gel polish, nail art, acrylic & hard gel enhancements, anti-age treatments, diabetic, oncology foot care, BS Braces (an ingrown nail solution), LCN barefoot nails reconstruction for toes, prosthetic toenails, and much more! We are known for our above and beyond customer service and sterilization practices. We use a 3 step process that includes an ultra-sonic cleaner, hospital grade disinfect, and a medical grade autoclave. Our customer service has led to clients voting us Best of Gwinnett 5 years in a row, which is an accomplishment that I am super proud of!

Last year, two of us were invited to compete in Nailympion, Argentina. We competed in serval categories and brought home several 1st places and 2nd place medals, and our own Nicole Franklin brought home a Grand Nail Art Champion trophy! Words can’t explain how extremely proud and surreal the moment felt! We met tons of new friends and saw so many new techniques to bring back home. We plan to journey to Orlando, FL this year to compete as a salon with some other great nail professionals!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
From the perspective of being a mentor, my proudest moments are always seeing people succeed. As a nail technician, being on stage with my co-worker Nicole, winning at our first large competition, also as the first Americans to compete at that competition, was one of my favorite moments of my life! The excitement to share the news with our loved ones and friends via social media and have them watching and cheering us on was surreal!
