Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Thomas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kimberly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I created I Hear That Girl! due to a lack of positive representation of black women. I’ve been in the media field for over 20 years, and I knew I could use its influence for good. The brand started as an empowerment website and grew into a book, empowerment events, a podcast, products, workshops and coaching services.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building I Hear That’s Girl! has definitely not been easy. As a brand based in positivity, you don’t get the traffic that other “gossip/celebrity news” sites get. However, keeping my message consistent, hearing from those who love what we’re doing, seeing and speaking to young girls and women all of it reminds me of my “why” and it keeps me going.
I Hear That Girl – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I Hear That Girl! is a multimedia empowered lifestyle brand for black women. Our mission is to empower young girls and women to realize the fullness of who they are.
Their beauty, their strength, their magic. We want them to see themselves differently than mass media portrays. I want them to see the greatness that I see in all of my sisters. Teaching them to control the narrative.
We utilize all forms of media as a tool to reach women. I’m most proud of the work I Hear That Girl! has done with our college campus tour, STRONGER. It is an empowerment panel tour that covers a multitude of subject matter relative to black women and our communities. I’ve connected with so many beautiful young women that have become my mentees and they are my legacy.
The work of I Hear That Girl! is unapologetic in our love for black women, an under-represented group that desperately needs our voice to be heard.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far has been at the Nzuri Festival in Houston, TX where I hosted an Empowerment Stage for 3 days! It was like bringing my website to life and I enjoyed everyone that I met during that event. I’m looking forward to doing something like that again in the very near future.
