Meet King Iven

Today we’d like to introduce you to King Iven.

Hi King, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got my start in New Jersey as a kid, my father used to bring me to the club with him, that’s where my inspiration was born. Then, I attended Morgan State University, where I kicked off my professional career spinning the top back-to-school parties and events on campus. A few years later, I was booked for Howard Homecoming in Washington D.C, exposing me to the plushness of D.C nightlife. Post-college, I moved to D.C where I booked my first residencies, including a 7-year residency at Park D.C one of the top black-owned nightclubs in the world. As COVID-19 heavily impacted communities and nightlife became obsolete, I decided to step out of entertainment and invest in real estate. After learning to leverage investments for funding, my team and I launched “K4L Solutions” a real estate construction company in Atlanta, GA. In the community, I crafted projects such as “Fund Your Passion” for creatives and entrepreneurs, where I shared necessary tools for success when using real estate investments to build capital to kick off or fund their passion business/projects.

“The Set” is another movement standing above the rest. ‌I created a community of R&B lovers who gathered in the historic Howard Theater for monthly shows featuring well-known local DJs and selling thousands of tickets. ‌Over 50 shows and over 13,000 fans later, we’re now adding shows in Philadelphia,‌ New‌ ‌York,‌ ‌Atlanta‌, and more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always bumps in the road, when starting out, you can read a lot, research and hear stories but you never know the hardships that entrepreneurs face. Specifically for Real Estate, the biggest obstacle was finding contractors but with the help of great mentors, I was able to navigate those troubles over time. With DJ’ing the hardest part was returning after a two years hiatus, it was almost a different world. People received music differently, there wasn’t a lot of music coming out during the pandemic or even post-pandemic as artists were not putting out music. The crowds began to gravitate towards older music and 90’s to early 2000’s hits that they knew so we had to adjust to what they wanted to hear. As well as adjusting to being in the same space again. When it came to producing “The Set,” we struggled to keep up engagement as people grew tired of virtual parties. We were actually surprised at the large turnout for our first post-pandemic show. With over 200 people that could not get in.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m like Diddy, you can’t define him. I’m a multi-faceted entrepreneurial creative. So, If I want to engineer one day, I have the ability to do it. If I want to build homes, I have the ability to do that. I can’t define myself or put myself in a box. If I had to put what I do into one word I “create.” I bring things from ideal to life. Whether it be in real estate, where I transform the ugliest house on the block into the most desirable, or in event production where I use my travels and experiences to bring events to life, so, I would say I’m an event producer, DJ, traveler, and idealist, I can do it all.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’m not sure that I believe in luck, I believe in speaking things into existence and having faith. I also believe in position, putting yourself in the right circles, and in the right mindset and I truly believe things will happen as long as you are consistent and stay at it.
