Today we’d like to introduce you to King Weeks.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I created King’s Castle because I like to talk and I wanted to make something fun for all kids to enjoy. I was inspired by my dad (my cohost) from going to the tapings of his show, Black 2 the Basics Podcast, and practicing with him. I really loved it when my dad would do practice interviews with me so much that I wanted my own show. My show is a fun conversation about child-related topics that you may learn something from. We believe in learning through fun. My show name is Young Simba because my dad and I love lions and we say we are the father and son on The Lion King. I just completed my first season and I am so excited to get started on season two!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road to where I am currently has been pretty smooth so far. I did have to convince my parents that I was serious about my show. I have to come up with my own topics and present them to my dad every week. This can present a challenge sometimes since I’m only seven, lol. My mom also had me sign a contract saying that this show would not distract me from my schoolwork or chores. I love making King’s Castle so everything else doesn’t seem so hard.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
King’s Castle is a show that allows me, as a kid, to speak freely about topics that kids think about daily. I am proud to be able to give other kids a chance to be heard on my show. I am also proud to be able to have adults come and teach us things in a fun setting. I am always thinking about new topics and different things that can make my show better. I love doing my show and I think that makes a difference for the listener.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think our city is a good place for any business. We can all do good if we try our best. Mom, my always tells me to say, “I’ll do my best and God has the rest.” all the time. I would tell someone just starting out to make sure you love it, then just do it!
