Meet Kiomoya Roberts of Boss Chef Catering & Chefs Circle in LaGrange

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiomoya Roberts.

Kiomoya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started at the age of ten watching Emeril on Food Network. The joy he got from being in the kitchen and the smile he put on people’s faces with his food inspired me to be a Chef when I grew up. I got my first job in a kitchen at the age of 19, being a dishwasher in which I know sounds cliché, but I quickly worked myself up to a cook. From there, I transitioned to being an overnight short-order cook for Waffle House. After that, I was a part of the opening team for a new Zaxby’s in my area, where I became a shift leader. In 2013 I made the decision to move to Miami to attend culinary school. Being in Miami expanded my culinary skills from the cooking techniques to the different cuisines I learned from school and work. While in school, I worked as a Chef de Partie for Cipriani, where I was mentored by some great chefs such as Mirko Rosone, Ian Tiemann, and Piero Minicucci. I graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in 2015 with an associate degree in Culinary Arts. From here, my next stop would be working at Metz Culinary Management, where I was an Assistant Manager over two dining locations at St. Thomas University.

While working there, Boss Chef Catering was born, I would sell plates on the weekends or days when I was not working. In late 2017 I made the decision to come back home to Georgia with the knowledge I had gained. I was determined to share what I had learned over the years with my loved ones through my food. Boss Chef Catering emerged in 2018 in LaGrange, GA and has been going strong ever since. In 2020 Chefs Circle was launched with the sole purpose of uniting Chefs and Foodies around the world. Right now, the brand carries everyday apparel for Chefs & Foodies, but the long goal is for the brand to become a lifestyle that would bridge the gap between the two.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say it was easy but I can definitely say it was well worth it. I had challenges along the way which made me better. Having to work a full-time job while attending school full time and still finding the energy to maintain myself day to day was tough. Being 10 hours away from my family was challenging because I was not able to visit home much while I was in Miami. The road to my success is still bumpy at times because a lot of people around me do not see my vision. Making it hard for them to put the amount of work I put into myself with little return. All in all, I would not trade the struggles I went through to get where I am today.

We’d love to hear more about Boss Chef Catering & Chefs Circle.
Boss Chef Catering was established in 2018. In which I am the head chef and owner. I offer a wide variety of culinary needs from meal preps to individual plates to cater for all occasions. People know me for Bossbachi, which is my version of hibachi, as well as loaded wings and loaded mashed potato bowls. My cooking style is a blend of gourmet and southern cuisines because I tend to pair high-quality proteins with traditional southern sides. Such as lamb chops and mac or salmon and golden mashed potatoes. I am most proud of the fact that I am living what I had always dreamed of becoming. Being my own BOSS is the greatest feeling. I am also the owner of Chefs Circle, which was established in 2020. Chefs Circle is currently a brand with hopes of becoming a way of life for other Chefs and Foodies around the world. Currently, I offer everyday apparel for both. Soon I will offer a full line of chef attire and merchandise for foodies. My passion is to be the best at what I do and my desire to consistently present quality sets me apart from others.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, luck is not something I would say played a role in either. For me I feel whatever happens in life is based on the decisions you make in life. However, having faith and believing in Jesus plays a big role. For me staying obedient is when I prosper the most and when I stray away from my faith, things in my life start to fall off. At the end of the day, you can only get what you put in. Therefore, if you put in more effort, you will reap a higher reward versus putting in little effort with no reward.
