Meet Kobie Davis of PMO Management LLC. in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kobie Davis.

Kobie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve had a love for music since a young age. My father would play Tupac, Kanye, TI, and Jay-Z on the way to school in the mornings when I was kid. Growing up in Atlanta, it’s impossible to avoid the amount of music and talent that’s produced in the city. In high school and during the summertime, I was always attending concerts at Center Stage, Lakewood Amphitheater, and Phillips Arena. I watched a lot of Atlanta’s current superstars blow up in front of my own eyes. I remember watching the Migos perform at Center Stage in 2016 for like 500 people with Rich the Kid, Playboi Carti, and Yachty. High school is when I peeped how many of my peers around me had a passion for making music. It wasn’t until I got to Howard, that I figured out how I could combine my passion for music with my business degree I am currently working on. Last year, I was just talking to my boy Cam, a fellow native of Atlanta and goes by DJ Kidd Kam, about starting our own business before we left school. We realized how many independent artists we could help and how we both had skillsets that translated into a business. We also knew we would need a team and Howard was the perfect place to do that. Howard surrounds you with a lot of intelligent, like-minded people. We added Kane Jackson (senior finance major) and Tyra Johnson (TV/film major). We formed an LLC shortly after that for PMO Management. PMO stands for Power Moves Only. I think it’s a statement that doesn’t need much explanation. It’s been a motto I’ve lived by for a while. If you not making power moves, you’re wasting time. We had our launch party in December 2018 in Atlanta where we invited artists, producers, DJs, songwriters, videographers, photographers from around the city to celebrate and network. Now, our team is currently continuing to build PMO and working with artists while we finish our last year of college.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the biggest obstacle was just getting past the brainstorming stage and taking the next steps to build a legitimate business. It’s always easy to talk about good ideas but actually bringing it to fruition is the hard part. Building an engaging website, a great social media presence, and looking for competitive advantages are all challenges I am currently dealing with. And then the haters, of course. I’m trying to run it up on them. And I know it’s a process, so staying patient and humble is what I’m focusing on.

Please tell us about PMO Management LLC.
PMO Management is a one-stop-shop for today’s independent artist. Artist management, digital marketing, branding, and distribution are what we focus on. I really believe in the saying, “Your network is your net worth,” and I don’t think there is another group of young people with the network Power Moves Only is creating. Having Howard and Atlanta on lock is going to take us to another level in the future. Through interning at Twelve Studios in Buckhead this past summer, I got to form some valuable industry relationships and work on my A&R and marketing skills. DJ Kidd Kam is the biggest dj at Howard and is expanding his reach around Washington DC and back home in Atlanta. He has the power to break a lot of records for artists that want to work with us. Tyra is based out of the west coast and will help artists’ music get synced in movies, TV, and other media. Kane will be able to show our artists how to invest and manage their money.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think so. I’ve made some mistakes along the way of building my business, but without those mistakes I wouldn’t have any lessons to learn from.  I feel like at this point in my life, its okay to experiment and test things out.  If something is successful, I have a formula I can duplicate.  If its a failure, charge it to the game and don’t do the same thing twice.  Smooth seas never made a skilled sailor as they would say.
