Today we’d like to introduce you to Koncieted Ken.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey of learning how to do hair when I was 16 years of age. So many people tried to stop me because “men don’t do hair” but I knew it was a passion for me so I continued to do what was best for me. I then started to gain clientele and I was like okkk well this little money I’m making was worth it after all, I can start to do things for myself more now. I became bigger and bigger in the city I was living in at the time so everyone knew I was the guy who did hair. I went off to college and I did two years to come to the conclusion that college wasn’t for me because I was too invested into hair that’s all I wanted to do so I left college and went to cosmetology school. while being in cosmetology school it was always my next move to move to Atlanta GA when I first started doing hair I knew my capabilities in hair and so many people doubted about me moving to Atlanta because the market is over-saturated with hair stylists BUT the market don’t have KEN and I’m standing beside that I’m more than just a hairstylist IM AN CREATIVE ARTIST!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road when I moved to Atlanta GA everything was moving slow I was putting myself out there going to events, passing out business cards, etc but it was moving slow and I couldn’t understand why I even reach out to a few influencers and I didn’t get a response from a few and then I question myself like ken are you good enough? BUT I KNOW I AM! I keep going daily I moved to Atlanta with a purpose and goals and I will reach every milestone that comes my way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in wigs and that’s what I’m known for even though I can do EVERYTHING PROFESSIONALLY that’s what I’m proud of because once many people focus on what they specialize in they tend to lack in other areas… I don’t!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is when my mom would have me by her 24/7 while she was doing hair so I could gain a lot of knowledge and professionalism from her at a young age and take notes that could take me further in life!
