Today we’d like to introduce you to Kouyo Young.
Kouyo, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started this company in October 2015. I had previously owned a tattoo shop in Marietta Square that burned down in a fire and instead of continuing that path I decided to pivot and go a different route. I had worked in electronics and cellular services for 15 years before jumping into started an electronics repair business. At the beginning I was worried about whether or not I had made the right decision to start another business but my wife kept me on feet and supported me until the new business had gained traction. It’s been over a year and half now but the business has grown and we are profitable. We have expanded beyond just electronics and have added fun things like toys, plush, and collectible cards.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles dealt mainly with money. The business did not start as I had projected and there were times that were slow. It’s was scary when there were weeks when I brought no money home. I wouldn’t have been able to make it through it without the support of my wife. She helped keep me positive through the tougher times.
Other issues that came up was the difficulty of managing the products I carried.
Maintaining a steady flow of products in and products being sold proved to be difficult while maintaining shipping costs. All the new obstacles has helped me understand business better and has helped this business grow.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
EDR, which stands for electronic device repair, is a small shop that specializes in repairing small electronics. We primarily focus on cell phone repair but are able to work on all other electronics such as tablets, computers, e-cigs, gaming devices, and more.
We are known to have extremely competitive prices without sacrificing quality of repairs and while still have a high level of customer service. We are most proud of the reviews that have been left behind for us. Our Google, Facebook, and Yelp have all been perfect 5 stars so far and we hope to be able to maintain that.
Our goal is to always go beyond the expectations of the customer.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I would definitely recommend people to start a business. It is very scary to do because it’s always an unknown. Overcoming that fear is one of most liberating feelings. If you decide to start a business I recommend that you should always keep those closest to close. There will be times that stress will be high and you will push the people close to you away. You have to make sure to keep your mind grounded and don’t push them away. They are the ones that will help you when it need it most.
