Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Catchings.
Kristen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I picked up videography in college and instantly fell in love with the craft. I started styling and modeling last year. I’ve always been very interested in fashion so I started styling myself and other people for shoots.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With Video production, it’s been hard because you have to stay up to date with the new technology and skills. For a long time, I let my skill level deter me from moving forward with videography. With styling, my biggest struggle is securing serious clientele. Time is so precious and often times people want to do things but find themselves having to choose between other things.
K.aliStyle/K.aliProductions – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
K.Ali Productions is a videography company thats known for its promo videos. They are my specialty. I love being able to tell a story with a small set of clips. K.Ali Style is predominantly known for my use of thrifted clothing to create stylish looks. Both companies are known for working with smaller businesses who aren’t as well known within the creative community. I love helping people and networking so I try to create an atmosphere where you get more than just what you came for when we work together.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Through networking, I got to assistant direct a video for Fat Trel and got to be featured in the credits for editing a wonderful film about Baltimore Girls. With styling and modeling, I have had a few clothing companies connect with me on social because they were interested in my style in order to represent them and their clothing.
