Meet Kristen Haynes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Haynes.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Photography literally fell into my life. I wanted to take better pictures instead of using my phone, so I went and bought a regular point and shoot Nikon camera. After using the camera, I realized that wasn’t the camera that I thought it was so I was a little discouraged, but I was still taking pictures here and there. Then, one day, about five years ago, when I went to church, one of the media guys who is also a photographer said to me, “Hey, you’re a shooter, right?” I said, “Yes sir, I am!” Then he says, “I have a camera for you. It has everything but the box.” He handed me everything, including the body of a Canon Rebel T3i plus two lenses. Ever since then, I’ve worked to perfect my craft in any way possible.

Please tell us about your art.
I create photographs that show emotion and allow the viewer to feel as though they were there in that moment. When I take photos, my main goal is to get emotions and moments whether it’s a one on one photo session or an event. I love capturing off guard photos and details. I feel as though capturing details really allows the viewer to connect with the event or the person in the photo. Capturing off guard photos allows for raw emotion to come through in a photo. Posed photos are great and everything, but for me, I’d much rather capture the mood and vibe. The one thing I hope that people take away from my photos is the passion and attention to detail that I have and that I try to convey through my photographs.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I would say try to get together with an artist who does the same type of art as you as often as you can. I like to follow other artists on social media who inspire me and who produce work the way I aspire to. It keeps me motivated and sometimes they will post behind the scenes of info on what they do that will help me learn new things. I also reach out to ask questions too. I’ve become friends with other photographers that I’ve met on social media, and I’ve learned so many things just by reaching out and stepping outside of my comfort zone to connect with other photographers.
