Meet Kristen Johnson of Kiss of Silk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Johnson.

Kristen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I started Kiss of Silk, it was originally “Kall Me Beautiful”. I know it sounds funny, hahaha! I was 17 when I first made that name up. I started Kiss of Silk because of my own skin. I would get really bad acne, then have dark acne scars that would not go away no matter what I used. I started researching & crafting my own skincare from simple but effective ingredients like shea butter, olive oil, & sugar …ingredients we had in the house. After crafting & using my first scrub & facial butter, I KNEW that I wanted to start a plant-based skincare business. I wanted others to feel & see their skin heal, just as I had done for myself.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road, hahaha! Learning is a constant obstacle while running my business because I am growing it on my own, from the ground up from complete scratch. I don’t have a guide but I know how to research, test, revise, & review until I find the answer that I am looking for. Some days are better than others but I wouldn’t trade doing what I do for the world!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kiss of Silk is a plant-based + handcrafted + woman-owned skin care, feminine care & wax melt business. As the owner & formulator of Kiss of Silk, I focus & pride myself on the use of healing benefits within botanicals & natural ingredients, inspiring confidence in your skin, & toxin-free luxury wax melts, skincare & feminine care products. It’s important to me to keep educating individuals of the importance of using toxin-free, plant-based products in their everyday life & how it can impact you in a positive way. Your skin is the largest organ you have & it absorbs everything you apply to it.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel that my constant drive & determination to reach my goals & self-reflection are important qualities that contribute to my growing success. Without any one of these, I’m not very sure what I would be doing at this moment….definitely wouldn’t be doing what I am doing now. I saw my dream, I made a plan & I’m putting it into action.
