Meet Kristin Cowart Pierce of Brave Public Relations in South Buckhead and Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Cowart Pierce.

Kristin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m originally from Florida and headed to Boston for college. While I loved the history, the culture and the soul of Boston, the winters were brutal for a Floridian. I decided to head back South and thought Atlanta would be an exciting place to call home. As a double major in Communications and French, I had my heart set on pursuing a career in PR. Three unpaid internships later, I was (finally) hired by global PR from Golin. I worked in its Atlanta office for four years servicing brands such as Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, Nike and Sara Lee Corporation. At that point, wanderlust set in and I made the move to realize my longtime goal of living and working overseas. I landed in London, working for another global PR firm, Edelman. There, I ran pan-European campaigns for several of the agency’s consumer brands, including Ericsson and IMAX. The work exposed me to different cultures, nuanced ways of doing business in each country and an overall love for meeting and connecting with people from different backgrounds. It was an experience that would forever change me — and inspire me. After several years abroad, I decided to return to the States and start my own shop. Working for two international public relations agencies and running a roster of global consumer brands taught me a lot about how to best service clients. It also opened my eyes to areas I believed could be managed differently in a PR firm. Armed with this insight, I launched my own business in my 20s with a vision of how to run a better business. Almost 20 years later, BRAVE Public Relations is one of Atlanta’s premier public relations agencies, specializing in retail, entertainment and lifestyle PR.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a long road but certainly an exciting one! PR is constantly changing, evolving and morphing, so it’s important to stay relevant. No day is ever the same — and no day is ever boring! One of the most important areas where we add value for our clients is in reputation management. This means our team handles crises for our clients around the clock. From large-scale incidents that take place on a client’s property to minor (but potentially volatile) social media snafus, our job is to provide smart counsel, manage the crisis and message to the client’s brand. It’s a 24/7 responsibility, so it keeps us on our toes! Some of our most impactful work for a client can happen at on a random Tuesday night at 10pm.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with BRAVE Public Relations – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
BRAVE PR is a boutique public relations firm, specializing in consumer and lifestyle brands. If it’s a brand you buy, a store you shop or a product you consume, often BRAVE has had a hand in promoting it. From Simon malls to The Fresh Market to Pike Nurseries to Broadway in Atlanta, we’re involved in a lot of what makes this city tick.

If you were to ask any of our clients, I think our team would be known for working really hard. We like to act as an extension of their internal marketing teams, so a great deal of trust and strong friendships are often the result. My employees often hear me say that BRAVE PR is a small, but mighty agency. We’re a group who believes in the power of scrappy teams to do really great things. I am particularly proud of BRAVE PR’s all female line-up. Each employee has been selected to join this team because, I believe they have the potential to be at the top of our industry. At the end of the day, it’s our team that truly makes this a great agency – and I am lucky to have a bunch of energetic, resourceful, committed and driven women behind me!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta has been such a supportive, inclusive and nurturing city for entrepreneurs. As someone who just picked up and moved here to start planting my roots, I was impressed by how the community welcomed me as a business owner. It’s an easy city to network and forge relationships — and it’s incredible how small Atlanta can be. I always tell my team never to burn a bridge, as you never know when paths will cross again!

I do miss some of the history, the tradition and the wonderful architecture of the older cities in which I’ve lived — such as Boston and London — and I hope Atlanta will continue to preserve some of its historical homes and city landmarks!

Lovely to see my friend in VoyageATL! I have been fortunate enough to get a glimpse into Kristin’s day to day on a couple of occasions and I am so impressed by her talent, her team and her smart approach to PR. Her clients are wise to place their trust in Brave PR. It was a treat to read about her beginnings too! Cheers!
