Meet Krystyn of Really, Are You Serious? (a blog) in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystyn.

Krystyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my site in 2005 to be a creative outlet while I was in graduate school.

Since then, it’s been about the sense of community and the people I’ve made great friends with (in real life)!

My blog has seen me through graduate school, teaching high school, teaching group fitness, doing graphic design, becoming a mother (4 times), loss, buying a house, paying off all of our debt and our house and all of the fun that goes along with life.

Now, I really enjoy working out and fitness and nutrition and spending time on trips with my family and girls ages (13, 11, 7, 5).

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh, heck no. It’s not been a smooth road at all.

Starting and running a blog takes a lot of work. There have been many late, late nights and early mornings. Most of my blog was done while I was working full time and being a mother.

The biggest struggles have been adapting to changes in the community. People used to have Google Reader, read blogs and comment on them. Now it’s all about SEO, social media, pinterest and writing articles that anybody might want to read, not just a dedicated reader.

Additional struggles include google and other social media making algorithm changes, having to move hosting companies, fixing blog issues and more.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My business is a blog, Really, Are You Serious? You’ll find family, travel, fitness, STEM and lifestyle on Really, Are You Serious? Recipes? You got it! Crafts? Those, too! We stay busy and we like adventure.

I’m most proud of keeping this blog going for 14 years and pushing through all of the changes and variations that the internet throws at me.

I think what sets me apart is that you can feel my human part when reading my blog. You know that I’m an individual and hopefully can relate to me and my life.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up…..whew. That’s tough. I think people would say I was “argumentative” but that really means I liked having educated discussions and learning new things.

I did a lot of dance and drill team and played piano for a big portion of my life. I also used to do a lot of water skiing and barefoot skiing.

So, I guess I was active and busy.
