Meet Kyle Campbell of Dreams To Paper in Atlanta and New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Campbell.

Kyle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story really starts in Tucker on a late night at my friend Anthony’s mom’s spot off Brockett road. This is back when we were all in high school too, so like 2012-2015. Anthony, who y’all might know as ROAM ’96, bought a monitor and recording equipment after giving up playing guitar. While we’d (my brother Kalen, his brother Armand, our friend Christian, and my cousin Evan ie Lil Evo) chill in his room and he’d play us beats or songs he created. We all played FIFA or 2K or watched whatever Atlanta sports or UGA football game that was on too. Real suburban shit. Evo and Kalen made music too so whenever he stayed with my family over the summer, it only made sense to link up at the one spot where we could all record and escape. Collectively, we’d experiment with putting together projects or just use the space like a listening room.

About two or three years go by and now, I’m in school At Boston University studying marketing. I switched from biomedical engineering my freshman year when I realized I had no interest in it and instead focused my efforts on getting into the business school. While in school, I quickly became friends with another kid from Atlanta named Jordan. He had the same name as Playboi Carti (one of my favorite rappers at the time) and also rapped. Jordan’s two classes above me but we’re both Posse scholars so it only made since our paths would cross. As I started to take a more serious interest in the business side of music, I offered to manage Jordan who went by KING J at the time. Together, with our friends JB, Dan, Helen, Tamara, Davi, Blaise, Alex, just to name a few, we made music videos, threw basement pop up concerts and parties in Allston, Brighton, and Dorchester, and really just did our best to grow the brand that was KING J. I introduced Jordan to ROAM and Evo, and Jordan introduced me to his friend’s Jean-Luc and Sammy Approved from back home. Jean-Luc makes pop music and also went to BU with us and Sammy went to Mays with Jordan. She’s amazing and just does it all, as I’m sure you all know. She took up managing Jordan after he graduated from BU and I moved out to LA to intern at B.E.T while managing ROAM.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been the smoothest of roads. Expanding our team while also being 1000’s of miles apart was really difficult. While in LA, I had a more of a hands-on experience managing ROAM while he made connections and worked with writers and producers like The Stereotypes and Babyface’s protege and Atlanta native Kameron Glasper. Simultaneously, I had the challenge of building a team that could facilitate working with our artists out of two other cities: New York and Atlanta. The team has slowly grown to include more trusted friends with eyes for creative direction but we’re still looking to add pieces here and there.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dreams To Paper – what should we know?
Dreams To Paper Entertainment, LLC is a management team and really family primarily focused on incubating our talent with the goal of supplying positive, audio and visual entertainment to a diverse consumer group. At Dreams To Paper, we’re committed to creating one of a kind entertainment across the board and firmly believes that quality, palatable entertainment can be realized without compromising commercial appeal. I do a little bit of everything but I’d like to think of myself as head A&R and the glue that holds everyone together. I have a good ear but I specialize in connecting the many pieces together for our artist to successfully record, distribute, and perform their art. I think what sets us apart from other labels or management teams is how selective we are with the music and put out and just the pure raw talent we have on our roster, which I’m looking to expand over the next couple years. We also are bi-coastal (New York and Atlanta) so we’re always tapping into both cities.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Everyone that has ever rocked with the movement whether it be in Boston, LA, New York, Philly, Atlanta, or DC deserves some sort of recognition for really believing in us as a unit and supporting any of our artists whether it be at a tour stop, pop up party, listening party, community service event we’re hosting, etc.
