Meet Lacey Lee of WSB-TV in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Lee.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lacey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Interesting story. I actually went to college for pre-nursing and realized well into my sophomore year that it wasn’t for me. My mother noticed early on that communications (reporter) was something I would be good at. I switched my major junior year and fell in love with my Mass Comm. classes. From there, I interned at WSB-TV. There I learned what it truly meant to be a reporter. Once I graduated from college, it was so hard to find a job. I began to experience depression, feeling like I wasn’t good enough then God showed up and showed out! A year after graduating, I was blessed to get a full-time position at the same station I interned at, making me their youngest full-time employee! I am a field producer/assignment editor at Channel 2 Action News and I almost gave up but God told me to just wait and he showed up right on time.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road… in news? Lol, that’s a great question. But no, it’s not always smooth. The main struggle for me is to not let my emotions get in the way of work. We cover some of the most gruesome stories but the one story that I will never forget is when I came into work and found out that we covered the car crash that my friend passed away in. To work in news you must have tough skin and a tough mindset because of all the deaths we cover on a daily basis.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with WSB-TV – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I work at Channel 2 Action News (WSB-TV) It is the #1 news station in Georgia and the highest-rated top 10 station in the country. I am a field producer/assignment editor at Ch 2. When I field produce, that means I go out and coordinate stories in the “field”. I conduct the interviews, I sometimes write the stories for either the producers or the reporters to, then go into a newscast. My responsibility as an assignment editor is to communicate with the authorities to receive information on a story, basically what many people would call “fact checking.” At Ch 2, they call the assignment desk the heart of the newsroom and I’m so blessed and honored to be a part of it. If I had to choose the one thing I’m most proud of, we all work as a team at Ch 2 there may be some bumps here and there but we all manage to keep it together to produce a bomb newscast! What I believe sets me apart is that I’m still the young kid on the block, so I come in with the biggest smile on my face, the spunk, positive attitude, and my work ethic. I was on a year contract here and they decided to keep me on longer, I have to be doing something right.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to become a TV news reporter. I’m getting all the training AT Channel 2 and will spread my wings pretty soon! So excited to see what city I will end up reporting in.
