Currently, she is the hostess of the Do You Lyric Lounge-Atlanta at Hodgepodge Coffeehouse and the Art Out Loud ATL Open Mic Variety Shows in East Atlanta Village, and Conyers. Twice a month she co-hosts the live stream show ‘Live from the BeatLab’ on Facebook offering ‘News that Indie Artists can Use’ with her husband C.E.O Allen Pough. Annually, she organizes and hosts the Troubadour Stage at the award-winning ‘Arts in the Heart of Augusta’ festival.
‘LadyVee Productions’ has recently merged with Allen Pough Studios & Allen Pough Productions, Entertainment Music Group. This collaboration expands the resources that are provided to independent artists in metro Atlanta and beyond to include custom music production, graphic art promotion services, and even affordable small event catering services. Our focus is to be “not just a little poetry show” and to truly be the one-stop-shop for indie artists to be inspired and grow their craft.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenges along the way to providing quality platforms for indie artists to express themselves have been stepping stone lessons to empower us on our journey. For example, our primary showcase Do You Lyric Lounge-ATL has been in 7 or 8 different venues in metro Atlanta until finally making a home at Hodgepodge Coffeehouse since January 2015. Also, at times when team members weren’t available to help, I’ve run entire shows by myself as door manager, hostess, performer, set up and break down, and promotion during the show.
We’ve transitioned our showcases to bigger and better locations, yet our goal is to acquire a community event space of our own to have a consistent base of operations. Through funding research, prayer, and support from the artistic community…we have faith that this will happen more sooner than later!
Please tell us about LadyVee Productions.
LadyVee Productions provides quality platforms and resources to independent artists in metro Atlanta and beyond. We specialize in open mic variety shows welcoming singers, spoken word artists, hip hop artists, musicians, visual artists, dancers, etc. to get their shine on in front of various audiences. The creative networking and exposure that happens at the shows expand the indie artist’s reach. Often our videos and promotion of the artists can be seen across social media to open even more opportunities for artists that wouldn’t be seen otherwise.
I am proud that when you come to a LadyVee Productions writing workshop, showcase, or unique theme event, you aren’t just getting the same small scale open mic event that you’re used to. Our events, whether it be at a coffeehouse, hair salon, or event center, are truly productions that put your individual talent in it’s best light. We have a consistent track record of over 12 years of connecting with different artists and expanding their craft to the point where a lot of poets and musicians can say that they started their own event or they got their start from being on stage for the 1st time with LadyVee Productions.
What sets us apart is that my husband, Allen Pough, and I are ARTISTS providing opportunities for ARTISTS. I am a spoken word poet, event producer, and an author and Allen is a graphic artist, music producer, cook, and DJ. As creative people ourselves, we understand the needs of our clients and customers. We build a relationship with our open mic talent and a lot of our entertainment clients can be called our ‘Friends in Art’.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have several favorite memories from my childhood from the Christmas morning breakfasts to our summers at Daytona Beach. One of the best memories I can recall is when I got a chance to write for my teachers in 9th-grade literature class. The teachers enjoyed my poetry so much that it inspired them to create a “library showcase” as an extra-curricular activity after school. My teacher’s encouragement inspired me to write more and more poems to perform on stage amongst my friends. Without that positive encouragement, I might not be producing shows and writing my truth today in my adult years.
