Today we’d like to introduce you to 6MAN.
6MAN, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It’s been quite a journey for me as an artist. I started off by wanting to be a motivational speaker. I always wanted to have some sort of impact on the lives of others. Eventually, I felt like I wasn’t fit to motivate anyone about things that I was not doing for myself. I then shifted from trying to be a motivator to write spoken word poetry. I am an introvert, and often times struggle to find a way to fully express myself. Spoken word gave me an outlet to express myself in a way that I never knew I could. That is when I fell in love with writing. If I were being honest, making music was not on my radar at all. I always had a genuine love for music, but NEVER thought I would start rapping. One day, I was in the middle of writing a poem and was not feeling it at all. So, I decided to search up a random beat on YouTube. I started writing to it… and instantly fell in love with rapping and the entire process of making a song. I took me about two years to fully understand what my passion was and it took me about a year to really get good at my craft. I taught myself how to write, record, mix and master within the time that I have been making music. It took many long nights, tons of research and trial and error to get to where I am today. Now, I have an EP out on all streaming platforms called ‘Change of Plans’ as well as two other singles that can be found on any streaming service. Starting July 5th, 2019, I will be releasing a song a week for the remainder of the year and I am also working on a poetry book.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth is the last word I would use for my journey! Some of my toughest moments have come in the midst of me becoming an artist. When I initially started, I was really struggling in school, I was broke, there were a lot of self-doubts, and a long period of time where I was lacking the confidence I need as an artist. But, despite everything, I kept pushing because of my love for the craft. I think it is really important to love what you do and to have a passion for it. The love and passion will remind you to keep pushing no matter how you feel at the moment.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a rapper/recording artist. I specialize in storytelling, but I got bars for anyone that wanna test my skills. Lol. Many people tell me that my music is soulful and different from what today’s sound is in music. That’s what sets me apart. When someone listens to my music, they can expect to hear something that may be relatable to whatever they may deal with in life. I am most proud of the fact that I am set-taught. I do everything pertaining to my music except making the beat. I definitely plan to learn how to do that as well.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First and foremost, I give God all of the credit for giving me the gift of writing. I am so thankful for that. It gave me purpose and more excitement in my life. My family has been supportive in all of my endeavors. My brother, Lake has been a huge help for always being real with me no matter what. If I make a song and it’s not good, he’ll be the first to tell me. My brother, Austin is equivalent to a motivational speaker to me. He always reminds me of how talented I am and what I need to do to get to where I want to be. All five of my brothers have shown their support in my passion as well as my parents. My mother is also a writer, and she gives me ideas that I may not think of myself. My friends who support me know who there are. Salute to you all. Lastly, my girlfriend, Alexis has been there for me every step of the way as I grind to get to where I want to be as an artist. It is NOT easy to be with an artist. Lol. I am grateful for her support. I am appreciative to all of the people that support me and helped me along the way.
