Today we’d like to introduce you to Langston John Blaze.
Hi Langston, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a young kid, I always wanted to be an entertainer. Michael Jackson was my first introduction to the dynamics of dance and amazing music and videos. As I got older, Aaliyah and Janet became bigger inspirations and seeing them act and musically perform impacted me and challenged myself to be what the industry calls a triple threat.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been rough. I’ve been rejected a lot; mostly because of my looks and body type. Some people look at me and think I’m crazy when I say that without truly looking in depth. The industry is just now starting to accept a variety of different body types and skin tones. For me, I tried to fit this norm of being preppy but I knew inside that was not me. I did not fit the straight standard nor the LGBTQIA standard. Till this day, I still feel like an outcast. I have this hip-hop side of me but sometimes there’s a punk rock kid who wants to come out through my style and music too.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I just released my new EP, “FANGZ” on all streaming services. It’s mostly pop with R&B influences. It’s dark; mysterious like me but still fun. The thing that makes me different is my approach to all things entertainment. I’ve written two novels, released two streaming EPS, I’ve acted, modeled, and written screenplays. I love it all. I’m known for my social media presence whereas a few years ago, people only knew me as an actor. I was a part of several LGBTQ web series in the beginning of my career, desperately trying to get my foot through the door. It worked; for a little while but then I lost myself in reality and it took me a long time to find my creative person again. I know him now. As a musician, I’m finding new dimensions of myself every day. I’m most proud of myself as a total entertainer.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Two days ago, I quit my full-time job to focus full-time on my art. It’s scary. I’ve had a lot of anxiety the past few days but I took the leap because now is the time. I’m not going to look this young forever. The industry I love is big on youth and looking young. I want to experience a lot before I feel too old to accomplish them. So I started my company Cold Summer Universe, a creative director establishment to help young independent artists like me.
