Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTasha Tonkins.
Hi LaTasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since 2004 I’ve worked in the field of education and have worked with students from all walks of life both your nontraditional and your traditional students. It has been a joy and an honor to have done so. I don’t take that opportunity lightly because as an educator, you have the ability to impact and change that student’s life. I thank God for giving me that opportunity do so because it is all him! I don’t take any credit for what’s been done! I’ve always had a passion to learn about culture, history, languages, Art, writing and so much more. So, I’ve really just have a passion to learn and to see others learn and accomplish their goals. With that being said, I have always wanted my own school where students can experience that kind of learning! Learning is my passion and if I can assist with that in one’s life than I believe that I’ve done my part. David & Goliath Culture Arts Academy LLC was birthed out April 2020! I was so excited about seeing my dream actually come true. It is totally in the beginning stages but it’s finally here! I’m so grateful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Journey has not been easy but it has been rewarding. Not knowing if I was going or coming. I wondered how things were going to come together and sometimes I still do because it’s up and coming. Not knowing if the student was actually learning until his or her progress is seen by the parent and they tell you. It’s alot when it comes to having a school and teaching others. Teaching is definitely God ordained not something that you can just jump into.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Educator at heart! I don’t really have that one thing that I specialize but I genuinely want to see our students make it in life and I want to prepare them for life. I am known as THE CHEERLEADER!!! I’m most proud when I see that a student has accomplished their goals and they beat ALL odds that they have faced. I’m just LaTasha and I carry a different tune and a different approach when it comes to my students. I pray with my students unapologetically.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m humbled and blessed. It’s nothing but God!
