Thanks for sharing your story with us Latasha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A time not long ago, I reach a crossroad in my career- What’s next? What is out there for me? Is there more than what I am doing now? How does this sound? I think we’ve met before? Maybe not in-person, but I know this feeling you are experiencing all too well! I have spent years helping to develop both businesses and job-seekers elevate their leadership and take hold of their careers- thus elevating their career trajectory!
I remember about ten years ago, I sat as a server, I had a break in between my tables, and I sat staring off in the distance. I had come to a point in my job, where I knew I could do more but I was so content with my circumstances and the predictability of it all that I was afraid to make a move! I remember sitting there and deciding at that moment I was going to be the change! I started to write on a napkin and said that in one year’s time I would be in a new career! I’ve always been involved with career-building, helping people see their own potential, and held jobs perfecting business plans- so I knew I could do more and that I wasn’t living up to my optimal potential – my calling was to do more to help people, but I needed to pick how that would be.
Flash forward, ten years and I now have the ability to help craft, create, and restructure careers in a new way, through leadership development- a new way focused on helping people reach their full potential. Starting with just a few clients, some people I met in my career develop their careers, and then they all moved past me! And then, I focused on mine, and I too started to elevate my career. I then started having webinars on key developmental topics and started to focus on developing leaders and students which landed me the ability to win a Top Woman in Grocery Retail award.
Now, to have helped over 2,000 small businesses and career seekers land their careers in a way that optimizes the best qualities of them while leveraging their strengths and closing the gaps on weaknesses. This is what I am passionate about!
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all- but a rewarding one, to say the least! Being a millennial, and always the youngest in the room has been a challenge at times! In full transparency, I don’t care how confident you are- at some point, you will question yourself.
Asking do I belong in this room (and then add being a young, female, of color to it and you get a trifecta)? I ‘ve run into those moments at a lot. And in those moments, taught me to really pull on my purpose- which is to be the change I want to see and ensure that I am creating a legacy that others can follow. So, having a deeper understanding of that and my role in the “bigger picture.”
Advice for all, find your voice and your purpose and let that guide you in times of doubt. I now lead those rooms where I am the youngest and people come to see me or sit in a session of mine- which is a full-circle reward I cherish.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
There are things you need to do to get where you want and the career you deserve! I have done it and so can you! Now, if you are looking for the fountain of career youth, a secret sauce, a wish-bone- you will find people that take your money! There are many things we need to address before we can get to that so I specialize in helping people achieve a higher career trajectory and help businesses restructure or create their talent development plans.
What sets me apart from others is what I am most known for which is my focus on elevating you and your career, they are not mutually exclusive from another- I take a 360 approach to all of my consulting starting with the career or business mindset. I specialize in women, millennials, and multi-generational coaching. The other thing that sets me apart is that I “talk the talk, and walk the walk” I have not always been in a high-level position and started the same as most, I have the educational backing to support my academic training, am certified in several personal development and training courses, and have been notarized in my own industry for leadership. I have followed my own advice and didn’t just wake up and jump into this career as a hobby- this is what I truly love to do!
My company is called Modern Millennial, and I am a career strategy coach. I consult a diverse spread of clients helping in areas such as career coaching, resume building and resume optimization, interview preparation, I conduct leadership development, webinars, Master Classes, and self-guided e-courses on topics such as discovering your career mindset, Making LinkedIn work for you, Crafting the perfect employee brand, and discovering your own leadership calling card- and then using it to name a few. My specialty also includes multi-generational coaching- helping different generations understand how to remain a competitive force in the workplace.
I am most proud of taking people like you to a new success level in their careers and to discover a new version of themselves they didn’t even know they were capable of doing!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the city a lot! There are so many things to do and explore that people are not aware of. I mean downtown you can satisfy your love of the arts at the High Museum, explore the deep blue at the Georgia Aquarium, or explore foods at Ponce City Market! Closer to me, there are many festivals and expos to go to with the family-like movie nights at the Mall of Georgia. I love the diversity of hobby-seeking activities you can partake in.
What do I like least? That I can’t go to everything!
