Meet Laura Coleman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Coleman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At first, I started my business as a fine artist and graphic artist to express my thoughts and for retrospection. Then I started creating artwork to promote positive self-images, cultural pride, and community empowerment. When I started to creating artwork for those reasons it brought me joy and happiness. Currently, I am an artist, author, illustrator, and scientist creating bold, vibrant designs, drawings, and digital art celebrating the magic of Black culture.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a long and windy road. I have tried different designs, mediums, and methods to creating artwork. Some have worked and some have not. I believe sometimes I go through phases of mediums. Currently, my drawings are reproduced for various graphic and digital media designs, including multiple products, prints, and wearable art.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I am an artist, author, illustrator, and scientist creating bold, vibrant designs, drawings, and digital art celebrating the magic of Black culture. I blend the aesthetics of Afrofuturism, Vaporwave, and Character Design within my artwork. My artwork is further influenced by comic books, graffiti art, streetwear fashion, pop culture, and science.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To always be open to new ideas and to change. Being an artist is more of a marathon in which you are always evolving.
