Meet Laura Temin of Achievement Strategies in Roswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Temin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
You know the expression, “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life” That describes how I feel about my work. The satisfaction of helping someone reach a goal, break a habit or resolve a problem that they were never able to resolve before is an amazingly rewarding feeling. It was a long road to where I am today but well worth it.

After studying hypnosis and seeing how powerful it was, I returned to school for a graduate degree so I could bring credibility to my clinical, medical and motivational hypnotherapy career. I was transitioning from one career into another career so I was working and going to school. It was exhausting.

I studied and earned a master’s degree in counseling psychology and became licensed as a marriage counselor and psychotherapist. In Georgia, we must work under the direction of others for 4 years after graduation, which seems like a very long time after spending 2 years in graduate school and working for free for a year. But looking back, I can say it was well worth it.

The experiences I had in the hospital were eye opening. They gave me a deep appreciation for how lucky I am just to have been born with a healthy brain. Imagine how scary it could be to believe that people are ‘out to get you’ or that they ‘placed chips in your brain to track your thoughts’. When people are psychotic their beliefs are outside of reality.

Through the years I have seen the desperation and hopelessness of an aging woman who had spent all her savings to care for her husband of 50 years who had dementia and was facing death. Along with mourning the loss of her husband she was facing homelessness and contemplating suicide. Those are the kind of extreme situations that people experience each day. It changes your outlook on life and your perspective completely.

I was fortunate to spend almost 8 years in Wellstar Hospital system where I worked in the ER, outpatient unit and psychiatric hospital helping people in those types of crisis situations and those struggling with anxiety, depression and substance dependence. And had the good fortune to interact and learn from a team of talented and dedicated professionals in the Sleep Disorder Center. Over the years I met wonderful people and while some people only read about these medical and mental health conditions, I witnessed them and took part in their care. Knowing how the brain and body interact on so many levels gave me a major advantage.

In my private hypnotherapy practice, I worked with every day people on more traditional concerns such as weight loss, nail biting and fear of flying or driving. The things I was able to help my clients with were life changing, like letting go of a past trauma, or overcoming an addiction. The training and experience I received from the hospital along with my private practice covered 2 different worlds and to this day I am grateful for how well it prepared me.

Please tell us about Achievement Strategies.
Achievement Strategies, Inc. is known for getting results.

Achievement Strategies, Inc. helps people reach goals, break habits and resolve difficult problems that traditional methods have been unable to address because we understand the interaction between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind and approach their goals comprehensively. We are able to help them accomplish more in less time and they are thrilled.

We work with individuals and groups. We work with personal and business goals and health concerns. We also work with married couples and relationship struggles. Our clients may look for help with stress, anxiety, depression, jealousy, anger, nail biting. Or they may be people who want to drink less but aren’t interested in standard alcohol treatment options. Our clients may be struggling with cancer or a debilitating or difficult illness and want to use their mind to pump up their immune system.

There are two things that set me apart from others in the field. First is my exposure to a variety of people and situations that I experienced through my work at the psychiatric and medical hospital. And the second thing is the comprehensiveness of perspective that I bring to my clients as a result of my education on the subconscious and conscious mind and its effect of the brain and the body.

I am most proud of the trust placed in me by my clients. And also, the trust placed in me by the brilliant Dr. Daniel Amen whose clinic I work in once a week, and another awe-inspiring physician, Dr. Taz. And the dedicated, highly esteemed team of Pulmonary specialists such as Dr. Dowdel and Dr. Patel at Wellstar Hospital. There is no greater compliment than a person placing their faith in me.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I know that there are things I could have done differently but when I really think about who I would be or where it might have led me, I realize that all of the experiences I had, good and bad contributes to becoming a better me.
