Meet Lauren Fins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Fins.

Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been training dogs for over a decade, and started Fins Animal Training in 2018. I started off in the animal world as a Veterinarian Technician and horse trainer, but fell in love with dog training after going through some training classes with our hound mix Welker. I have gone through several training programs and am a CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed), a Pro Dog Training through Absolute Dogs, a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer with Julie Naismith, and am working on getting my Service dog Trainer Certification through ATLAS. I love working will all breeds and ages of dogs, but especially enjoy working with puppies, and anxious dogs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning how to run my own business was definitely challenging, as well as how to market myself and get more clients. I have learned a lot through the years about not just how to train dogs, but how to run a business as well. I work for myself, and by myself, so I am the owner, trainer, bookkeeper, and secretary. It took a little while to learn how to balance it all.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
More people than I can list. First and foremost, my husband Adam. He has been with me every step of the way. He has been there when I wanted to bounce ideas off of him, or just listen to me vent about something. My first mentor Bob Olson taught me a lot about how to train dogs, and people. All of my friends and family that have supported me throughout this journey. My last dog Welker, who passed away this April, taught me a lot as well. She taught me how to be patient when training, and was my guinea pig for anything new that I was learning.
