Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Kuzminsky.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back in college, I was studying Communications with a minor in Marketing. The field I hoped to work in was extremely competitive and I knew, I would have to get some experience under my belt and start networking. I was fortunate enough to have several marketing internships at various Atlanta companies, one of them being Atlanta Magazine.
After graduating from KSU in 2014, I accepted my first official job offer as a marketing coordinator for a local real estate company. I am so grateful for the experience and although it was not my dream job, it was a great stepping stone for the time being. About a year into it, I ran into the Atlanta Magazine advertising director at a networking event. He asked me, “When are you going to come back to work at the Magazine?” My eager reply was, “When are you going to give me an offer I can’t refuse?” Well, it wasn’t too long after that when I received that offer and I’ve been here ever since working in our advertising department!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think it’s easy to get discouraged when you are trying to break into a super competitive industry. There can be quite a bit of rejection and it can be discouraging but I just networked and got myself out there as much as possible which eventually paid off. Atlanta is not as big as you think and it’s all about who you know and who knows you!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
A big part of what I do consists of project management and client relations. I really enjoy being able to get creative with some of our custom projects. One project that is very close to my heart is Give Atlanta which we launched in the fall of 2017. The Give Atlanta Challenge gives local charities the opportunity to raise funds and compete for cash grants and other prizes while also being featured in the Give Atlanta print publication. Last year, the program raised money for a five-week challenge period and we distributed over $234,000 to the participating Atlanta nonprofits. I am thrilled with the success we had especially considering that was our first year launching it and I look forward to making it even more successful for years to come. I am already planning on Give Atlanta 2018, so look out for news on that!
What were you like growing up?
I don’t know if I could pinpoint just one memory, but pretty much every memory I have revolved around my family. We didn’t grow up with a lot and even still, my parents worked their butts off to provide for us. I saw how hard they worked to get where they are now and their story is what inspires me so much to work hard and never stop reaching for something greater.
