Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Williams.
Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my business because I was having a difficult time finding products that had natural ingredients, great for my entire family, but that smelled good as well. I started out making whipped body butter for myself because I developed eczema once I moved to Georgia. I also started to make by sugar scrubs for my son who was 6 at the time that was suffering from extreme dry lips. I took him to his pediatrician and there was nothing she could give him, so I started making sugar scrubs to gentle take of the dry skin and replenish the moisture. I then started to make more products for friends and family and realized I was on to something amazing. I had some really good skincare products that was making a difference in people’s skin. A friend of mine told me about a pop-up market that was going on and suggested I should sell some of my products there. I pretty much sold out of our products there and I gained a few customers that I still have til this day and this happened in the summer 2000. Today my company is a part of different pop-up markets around Atlanta such as Atlantic Station (makers market), Market by Macys, the McDonough location and johns creek location, the community farmers markets in Ponce city market, Virginia highlands, and Decatur farmers market. Our products are now in a shop in Kennesaw, GA name moonstone studios.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been a smooth road at all. The company is growing and with growth, I am always looking for funding to continue to grow my business which is hard at times. The truth is you have to spend money to make it. A lot of times, I may put my last into my business to continue to grow. It is hard at times, but I know LaBlu Serenity will be a household name in the near future.
We’ve been impressed with LaBlu Serenity, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a skin and hair care line that uses clean, minimalist ingredients that is great for the entire family to use. I want our clients to be able to read and understand the ingredients on our products, can be used for multiple parts of the body and help clear and moisturize the skin. LaBlu Serenity have whipped body butter in about 12 different scents. Body sugar scrubs, herbal soaps, body oils, hair oils and butters and so much more.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
So the biggest risk I took was me resigning from my 9 to 5 that I was making a descent amount of money at, I was on salary base, with full benefits. I was scared to walk away from that because for 1. My husband and I are raising three children all in school and in after-school activities. Having that 2nd source of steady income in conjunction with my husband was great but very stressful. But know this. I would not change any decision. I know have more time with my family. However, the months that business is slow is the hardest and most difficult times.
