Lauryn, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Purely Perfect Hair started as a personal journey to maintain my natural hair and blossomed into a desire to help others with their journey. When I went natural in 2015, I experimented with several store-bought products that were not meeting my needs. As a result, I researched ingredients best for natural hair, began making my own products, and quickly learned that handcrafted products work best for my natural hair. I started to see major hair growth, increased moisture retention, and an overall healthier head of hair.
After sharing my custom products with friends and family and observing the beneficial impact on their natural hair, I knew I’d unearthed a valuable service. I had identified a need for affordable, quality products that strengthen, protect, and maintain healthy hair and thus, Purely Perfect Hair was born! The name “Purely Perfect” illustrates the Company’s commitment to relying on the pure perfection of natural ingredients to enhance all hair types naturally.
There is true importance in learning to embrace your natural hair journey and discovering products that enhance the uniqueness of your kinks and coils. My desire is to use my journey to inspire women of color to embrace their natural curls and care for their hair with pure, handcrafted products.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? Absolutely not! As a new business owner, there was so much to figure out and I can admit I have quite a bit more to learn. There were so many bumps in the road, but the major key I’ve learned to attack any issue is to humble myself and ask for help when needed. As a “solopreneur” I felt like I had to have the answer to everything and that is not realistic or sustainable. I had to come to grips with the fact that I don’t know everything and there is someone who can do what I need better and/or faster than me.
Bottom line, build a trustworthy team/network around you. Ask for help and lend a hand when you can. We do NOT have to make every mistake ourselves to learn.

Our goal is to provide quality hair products while educating women on how to embrace and care for their natural hair. So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our word for 2020 is EXPANSION! We currently offer fantastic products that support parts of a wash routine but in 2020, we are working hard to expand to a comprehensive product line (i.e., washing through styling). We also want to expand our reach online as well as in our local market. We are looking forward to stretching ourselves to ensure we make a bigger impact and become a better Company.
