Today we’d like to introduce you to La’Vala Moss.
La’Vala, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my journey at the age of three years old I was raised by a single mother in a household of six. Growing up not knowing who my father was … was a very emotional roller coaster for me but I’m forever thankful for my mother putting me in church at such a young age there is where I got the exposure and a freedom outlet to be involved in all extra activities. I started off praise dancing, then singing in the choir, step team, and mind. I knew at a young age I had a passion for performance arts. That’s how it all started that lead me to join dance crews, modeling Troops, stage plays, and so much more. I remember hearing a speaker say in church God we ask that you put our passion with our purpose and from that day it just always stuck with me. At that moment I committed myself to chasing my dreams. I knew at a young age I wanted to break barriers, and beat the statistics that were set upon a girl like me coming from Loveman Village Projects. Nothing much is expected from you or of you just another! I knew I wouldn’t allow that to be my story and I promise to gear myself up for the Journey …. which lead to where I am today, I got here with determination, dedication, ambition, but most importantly I got to where I am now by being humble.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road but then again, I don’t think it will ever be I think in some spaces in life you are just more equip to handle the pressure in that season. Even when things go great you still Have the uncertainty of what’s next on this journey. Some of the struggles I faced was trying to regain financial stability, keeping a job that would work with your schedule, staying positive even when all you keep hearing is no no no and no. Trying to stay above water when you feel like you will never make it and you are just another trying to do what everybody else is doing I was just sleeping in my car being so dedicated to a passion. Trying to find my way and figure out what is the best route to take you face so many struggles but you have to stay focus and let the hurt make you go hard and know it will all be worth it in the end.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
So I turned my actual stage name into my booking business which is my brand. I specialize in modeling, creative directing, dancing, writing, acting and motivational speaking. I try to motivate as well as be encouragement to people I’m most proud when I have inspired someone in any shape or fashion I want to break barriers and beat the statistics that were set against women that look like me or people that come from where I’m from I’m more than the environment in which I was raised I’m more than the obstacles I faced I’m more than and that’s the motto I want to push and pour into each soul I come in contact with you are more than …. My purpose is greater than traditional I’m going to change lives and the world it’s my calling and I feel that is what sets me apart from others. Last but not least always remain humble
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a tomboy slash pretty girl lol. I grew up in the projects so my outlet was going outside to play with the other neighborhood kids …. from volley ball, kick ball, hide go seek, water fights, 4th of July BBQ’s everything was outside activity which was amazing to me. I created my first girls’ group when I was little and we would meet at the park and rehearse the songs I wrote. Then we would enter all the talent shows locally or at school. Growing up for me wasn’t all good but I thank God for the good and the bad and making the best out of what we had… my personality was always happy , silly, outgoing , shy when around new people … definitely would say bold I would take risk even as a child . I knew as a child I had a passion for performing… I would cut BET on and any song that came on I would cut the tv up so loud and pretend I was on stage didn’t matter where but I felt in my soul I was there …. I would dance until I couldn’t dance anymore. I would pretend I’m on the runway lol my imagination was so big growing up I felt like if I can imagine it, I can see it then I could definitely be it and it’s still the same till this day
