Meet Lawanda Curtiss and Jade Maria of Savvy Seeds in Covington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawanda Curtiss and Jade Maria.

Lawanda and Jade, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Savvy Seeds for my daughter, Jade Maria. She is both the face of the company and the inspiration behind it. She loves fashion! Even with school closings, she wakes up everyday and takes her time finding the perfect outfit so that she looks and feels good. I took her love for fashion and made it into a business. I consult with her often when selecting items to add to the shop. When she gets older, I would like for her to eventually fully take over the business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth at all. The first main struggle was getting our name out there. We had to get noticed and build a following. I thought that by following little cute kids’ pages on Instagram, their parents would automatically follow me back. That was not the case. Once I started to build a following, I had to build trust. One customer told me she ordered from a small company online and NEVER received her products. People wanted to know that they were guaranteed to get their products, the products would arrive in a timely manner, and the products would be of good quality. Our brand reps were vital in helping us build trust. Now, our main struggle is competing with larger companies.

Please tell us about Savvy Seeds.
Have you ever heard the saying “seed what you’d like to grow?”  That’s EXACTLY what we do here at Savvy Seeds!  We plant the best of the latest, and all time greatest fashion savvy trends and watch them grow into amazing and super seeds, SAVVY SEEDS!  We guarantee the best quality for little ones with awesome prices and fast shipping and excellent customer service.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have taken more time to research ways to build an audience. I’m following WAY too many people on Instagram LOL. We sort of just dove into the business. There is so much to learn about starting and running an online business. I would have definitely taken more time to research prior to launching the business.
