Today we’d like to introduce you to LeeAnn Blizzard.
Hi LeeAnn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was a child my Fraternal grandmother used to always let me play and style her hair, she even let me do her makeup (I’m sure she probably looked like a clown). I started Junior college at Georgia Military College, and the party life for the best of me; so I dropped out of school. I spent a year partying and enjoying freedom, but that quickly changed.
While I was in high school, I completed 500 hours of cosmetology school and always enjoyed. In 2003, I made the decision to finally go back to school for cosmetology. I was also able to transfer my cosmetology hours from high school to the technical college for cosmetology. In 2005, I finished school and started working in a salon immediately after. My best friend, at the time, had just opened a salon in November 2004, so I shadowed her after school throughout the week and did just close family and friends on the weekends until I was able to take my Stateboard. I started as a commission stylist and a year later started booth renting as an Independent Stylist. I worked at “A Flair for Hair” for 15 years. In 2020 when Covid shut everything and every business down, I struggled as being self-employed, it was hard; but I quickly realized that I was ready for a change. I reached out to another stylist in the area about being a suite owner because of the new rules and regulations that Covid-19 had put on businesses with masking and social distancing, being a suite owner was a no-brainer for me.
In October of 2020 “Head Bangers Salon” was born, and I have been more than grateful for the support, love, trust, and more importantly, the relationships that I have built with my Clientele since moving into a suite. I can be a little bit of an introvert and enjoy a little bit of a slow-down pace after being in a busy open salon; my suite has allowed the privacy and safety that my Clients and I have enjoyed. It’s just super nice being in my true own; my suite is very alternative, classy goth kind of, and I’m thankful that my Clientele is VERY versatile. I LOVE LOVE LOVE having clients from all walks of life, different political views, different religious beliefs; etc. I had a client talk about politics to me a few weeks ago, and the neatest thing she told me was “ I don’t know what political party you are, but I feel like I can talk to you about anything, and you won’t judge or anything”, and that’s what I strive for in my business. Where everyone feels welcome in my space.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My first year as a cosmetologist I worked a second job, so I could afford my bills.
I unexpectedly broke my tibia and fibula, and dislocated my ankle in 2017, and was out of work for 4 weeks. I was worried about who would take care of my clients if I would ever walk or work, or even run again. Everyone was so supportive.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hairstylist in Milledgeville, Georgia. I used to always have blue, green, or purple hair; so a lot of people recognized me because of it. Guests that were referred to me that didn’t know my name usually would say “the girl with (what we color it was at the time) hair.
I don’t really specialize in anything specific because I like being versatile; but Vivid colors are my most favorite.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Patience and when to say “no”
