Today we’d like to introduce you to LeeRoi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us LeeRoi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My sister, Lindsey Jean and I have fronted a touring party band called The Regulars Band for the past 15 years. We have played at many local events including Macy’s lighting of the Great Tree at Lenox, Centennial Olympic Park 4th of July, The Peach Drop, The Atlanta Zoo, and The Aquarium to name a few. We both grew up enveloped in music as our Dad was the music minister at a local church we grew up in. We decided to get together with some of our friends for a local talent show and we ended up winning it. We decided to make it a full-time thing and have been going strong ever since. We grew up with many different musical influences and we try and incorporate that into our sets. Our shows are unlike any other you’ve seen. We keep the energy upbeat with a lot of dance music from top 40 to 90’s hip-hop, Motown, funk, soul, and everything in-between.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been an interesting journey. I’ve essentially had to learn how to be a businessman by trial and error. I like to progress naturally and moderately. I think it’s important to take a step forward every year. It doesn’t have to be a big step but it’s just important to keep moving forward. We’ve gone from playing talent shows and little bar gigs that paid nearly nothing to big corporate gigs that pay very well. We’ve played in some crazy places and seen crazy things. I never will forget one time we were playing at this bar in Chattanooga and this giant fight broke out on the dance floor. The police were on the scene quick and broke it up. The funny thing was that those police were actually filming an episode of Cops. So we got to be the background music to someone’s arrest on the TV show Cops.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Regulars Band – what should we know?
We are a full-service party band/DJ/MC service. Simply put we provide a party! We’ve played over 100 weddings and corporate events over the years. The thing that sets us apart is the variety of music we do. If a song just came out on the radio you’ll find us playing it at a show. We like to stay current but at the same time, we play all the great hits of the past.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our parents have supported us more than anyone else along the way. They come to all the shows they can make and will travel any distance to see us. They’ve allowed us to use their home as a practice space and they have always supported us through all the ups and downs.
