Today we’d like to introduce you to Leison Shears.
Leison, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Houston, Tx and spent most of my life growing up in Missouri City. As a youth, I was raised with a background influenced by music because my father was heavily involved in the era of Houston’s music scene. I was exposed to much of its culture at a very young age to a point that still impacts me to this day. My mother purchased a keyboard for me at a young age and soon after, enrolled me in piano lessons around five years old. I adapted pretty quickly and after many recitals, moved on to teach myself how to play guitar at the age of seven. I then joined the band in 4th grade at Lovett Elementary as a percussionist where I continued to play until my freshman year of high school at Stafford MSD. That same year, I met a soon-to-be business partner, @EnzoMcFly, which sparked the beginning of my journey into this industry. Enzo & I worked together participating in various activities throughout the Greater Houston area, building the Enzo WorldWide brand during our high school years. Around that same time, I learned of Think It’s A Game Records and it’s first act, Trinidad James. So, it’s safe to say that was when I realized I was meant to have a career within the music industry looking back on those defining moments of my life. Fast forward to now, I’m currently working as A&R at Think It’s A Game Records alongside YFN Lucci, Q Money, Posa & our newest signee Lil Bike.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I haven’t really faced many challenges besides the usual you’d expect from a young person still figuring out how to navigate into adulthood. I devote most of my life & time into my work. Yes, I’ve experienced a few obstacles within my work-life balance, but like anything else, you can only push forward & keep your eye on the prize to overcome them. Staying focused and not getting discouraged is the best way to remain on course especially if the passion is genuinely there.
Think It’s A Game Records – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Most say I’m known for my generosity, work ethic and knowledge especially at my “young” age of 21 years. Many that I come across state that I’m ahead of my time & am destined to be something greater than most have witnessed. I often disregard those statements & continue to remain humble, working hard not for myself but those that are around me because everything that I do is simply based upon passion & dedication. I never anticipated receiving as much acknowledgment & praise that I get, only utilizing it as fuel to work towards a bigger purpose. Reflecting back on my freshman year of high school when I could only dream to be in a position such as this, never expecting this blessing to happen as swiftly as it occurred. Furthermore, I want to thank our Founder & CEO, Billionaire Fly for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime! As an A&R, I seek and develop talent, connecting them with some of the industries top heavy hitters. As we work collectively in curating phenomenal records & projects for the masses to enjoy.
