Today we’d like to introduce you to Lewis Texidor.
Lewis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born in Florida, raised in Spain as I like to say. I started very early playing drums and developing my passion towards music, pretending I could play drums to “Yes” records and trying to follow my father’s bandmates while jamming to a 12 bar blues in the basement.
As soon as I turned 14, I was determined to learn guitar, influenced by my eagerness to write songs and the inspiring songwriting abilities of Nobuo Uematsu. I started playing in several local bands while living in Spain and right around 16, I began to develop an interest in live sound and audio engineering. My interest led me to work as an intern in a couple of studios and to further develop my abilities as a songwriter.
With all this music going on in my life, I decided I really wanted to make this happen and moved from Spain to the U.S.A to attend the Atlanta Institute of Music. I first graduated in the guitar certificate program and later obtained my degree in music and technology. I then started working as a music instructor at the “Music Authority” and occasionally working as a substitute teacher at the “Atlanta Institute of Music.”
I am currently dedicated to music education and mentorship, production/recording/mixing out of my studio/business “Arcology,” and FREEDOM ACADEMY OF MUSIC. Playing live music with bands like Afterglow, the Vibes and original projects like Hearkening to Andromeda, GBAD and solo material. I have also been actively working as a session musician for artists like Adam O, Ty Steele Band, 10:20, etc.
Has it been a smooth road?
I am a person that is not afraid of change and I try to be as versatile as possible so I can adapt to any situation. What some may see as a hardship I have always viewed as a learning experience. On that note, I have definitely had to wash some dishes, scrub floors, clean bathrooms and live on dollar meals.
I can’t really say that I enjoyed those experiences but I didn’t dislike them either. I have met really amazing people along the way and although some of those jobs were not what I wanted to do with my life, they have definitely helped shape who I am.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My company, “Arcology,” started out as a failed start-up record label, with one of my best friends. I decided to take the name and use it to associate my recording studio with it. Nowadays, it focuses more around the music lifestyle and it is slowly becoming an identity for content creation and live events.
What I am really proud of is bringing more to the table than just a recording studio or video production. We are always offering advice and guidance through possible next steps and have a vast network of professionals that can make your ambitions a reality. What sets Arcology apart is the idea of just not only providing a service but facilitating an experience and process in which you will also learn alongside. A lot of businesses in this line don’t want to share their “sound,” their “process,” their “techniques,” or their “knowledge,” and we believe in being completely transparent so you can become better at creating and strategizing your goals. We are constantly learning and want to share.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I know it probably sounds cliché but we really do have a melting pot culture here. Our music scene varies from some of the best hip hop in the world to some of the hardest heavy hitters in rock and roll. Almost every bar has live music and incredible events. We have some of the best artists and photographers in the game. Amazing restaurants and hands down the best craft breweries in the country. It is an amazing feeling to live in a place where so many people make a living off being creative and expressing themselves. If I could fix anything, it would definitely be the traffic. That’s something we can all agree with.
