Today we’d like to introduce you to Lex P.
Lex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a small town called Orange, Texas. I was always into media in high school but I never knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. I was always the kid who couldn’t wait to graduate and move to the big city. I moved to Houston immediately after high school and I attended Texas Southern University. There, I received my Bachelors in Mass Communications. After graduating from college, I started working in a field that had nothing to do with my major and I became super unmotivated. I knew I needed a change to keep me from continuously being stagnant. I, then, packed up and moved to Atlanta in 2017 and it was everything I needed. The opportunities here are so endless for creatives. I began a YouTube channel, a podcast, a blog and I’m also a media correspondent for All Urban Central. The leap of faith I took to move definitely contributed to me getting on the path I’m on to be successful.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth is the last thing anything has been. As far as production and editing go for all my content, I’m self-taught. There have been moments where I wanted to quit and be satisfied with a “normal” career. One thing I learned is how important consistency is. If you do something daily/weekly, it’s inevitable that you will get better at it. Leaning the business side of things is also something that I’ve had to learn. I always take this process day by day and look at the positive side of things always. Being successful is never easy.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I have a podcast called Pour Minds. The motto of the show is “where a drunk mind speaks sober thoughts.” The show is my co-host Drea Nicole and I. We cover all topics from relationships, dating, sex, current events, and music. Any hot topic is going to be discussed all while drinking our favorite alcoholic beverages. On top of my podcast I also recently started Love, Lex P. This is a lifestyle blog of all of my favorite beauty products, foods, clothes, etc. One thing I believe that sets my business ventures apart from others is that I definitely cannot be bought. A lot of times, you can pretty much pay influencers to say and post anything as long as you pay them. I take pride in being honest with my audience because if they cannot trust you, it definitely brings down the value of your brand.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to get in front of the camera more. My passion is in media so working with All Urban Central as a correspondent has been absolutely amazing for me. I’m looking forward to being on a few more red carpets this summer doing interviews and expanding my skill set to do more one on one in-depth interviews.
